Fish Feeding During 3 Weeks Vacation

I have a couple of blood cichlids in the 120 Gallon tank. I am planning to go on a vacation for 3 weeks and would like to get a good way to feed the fish periodically. The flakes I feed is

Personal Experience:
I have used Eheim Everyday Fish Feeder before in my last vacation for a week. However, when I came back, the fish started wounds and holes on the head, which I guess is due to overfeeding.

I am also wary of using this for 3 weeks in the coming trip ... because I feel that more food is going to be dropped by the feeder in the first week when the feeder is more full and there will be a lot less food dropped in the last week when the feeder is less full.

 

I would think it's designed to feed evenly whether it's full or almost empty

 

I wonder if there a food timer which can feed only one time a day , that will be great for this

 

I think auto feeders can be set to specific times

 

For 10 days or less I recommend letting them fast.

In your case, I would premeasure food out in pill containers and have someone come by and drop the premeasured food in.

I have someone come by every 3 days and that has worked great for me.

I don’t have cichlids so that may not work for them.

 

I use this, however, my tank is also smaller than yours and there are less days on the wheel than what you need. There is a dial in the middle to set feeding times and an air pump can be hooked to an inlet to help stop the food from sticking to the feeder.

Although this particular product may not work for you, maybe you could DIY something similar if the other suggestions won’t work for your situation.

 

I use the all the time and I sit by my tank. Been using it for years to feed once a day. Just check it every month and you're set.
