Fish Enrichment Ideas

I don't know, maybe we could post some ideas here.

I've been reading up on cories lately and turns out they prefer sand even though mine are on gravel. Perhaps maybe place a tray or cup of play sand inside, insert food, and watch them go at it? Putting the object in the water would be the only difficult thing due to sand.

Post ideas here!

There's conflicting information out there regarding this but it can't hurt to call it out here; some people say that cories (or any other fish with barbels) need to kept on sand because gravel will wear down their barbels over time and eventually may cause them to die. Personally, I have always kept cories on sand and never had an issue with lost barbels; my cories do love their sand and will stick their faces in up to their eyeballs looking for missed bits of food so I won't keep them on any other substrate but to each their own!

Corys can be kept on gravel as long as it's smooth & kept clean but they do prefer sand so if you are able to give them some, even if only a small area they'd appreciate it.
It always makes me smile coming down in the morning & seeing the cory dimples in the sand where they've been foraging through the night.
Not mine but this video shows their natural way of feeding in sand.

I gave my cories a sand pit and one already seems to dig it! Hopefully eventually I can slowly phase out gravel and convert to sand. I placed some food pellets and algae wafer bits in the sand in hopes of them foraging em out. There's some bloodworms floating around as well.

I have albino cories on sand in one tank and gravel on the other. I have not had a single problem with the sand. Now for the gravel they have lost their barbels, so the sand is much better!

Looks like they're enjoying it already especially as it has one of their favourite foods, bloodworms, in it.
Just a note, they get little to no nutrition from algae wafers so don't use them too often.

Oh wow, I didn't know that! xD

Thanks, I'll remember that in the future

This one cory reminds me of a happy child in a sandbox. Probably one of the best decisions ever made for them.
