Fish don't look right

30 Gallon tank
pH: 5.0
Ammon: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: Way too high! ... I did a water change today
Just 2 Silver Dollar fish

The fish look like they have bumped into something and scraped their mouths. It doesn't look like cotton. Their lips look whitish/grey and swollen. They don't have white spots any where on their bodies. Their fins do look frayed though. Appetite's are good. Any idea what this might be?

Silver Dollars are schooling fish and should be kept in a group of at least 6.

pH should be 6 - 7.5.

Light level should be kept low.

I realize this doesn't answer your question exactly, but ultimately you'll have healthier fish if you provide them an ideal environment.

Your ph is extremely low. Is 5 the reading you get straight from the tap? My guess would be the ph and the nitrates. Tell us if you use tap water or other special water (bottled, RO, etc).

Thanks for the responses. I don't put water directly from the tap. I use a Tap Water Filter. I'll adjust my pH and get back with you on the results.
