I have a 10 gallon tank, was set up one month ago with 3 guppies and 3 glo fish tetra. I didn't cycle the tank, I didn't vacuum the gravel, only changing 10% of water weekly and using dechlorinator. I discovered too late the ich disease, I bought a vacuum and changed 30% of water, raised the temperature of the water, removed the carbon filter and used the medication. In less than 24 hours all fish died one by one and I couldn't do anything. The new water was the same temperature as the one in the tank, I don't know what shock them. I used the dechlorinator.
I started reading, I discovered the nitrogen cycle and so many mistakes I made during this time and I decided to try to set up the tank again. My question is, what should I do next, continuing changing the water and put medication for few more days in the empty tank , or do I need to throw everything away?
When can I should start cycling, I was thinking to try to cycle without fish. Oh, and when I removed the carbon filter, I washed the sponge was there. Is that sponge the media filter that I read is so important on keeping good bacteria? I am thinking to order the API kit test from Amazon, from what I read here should be good for a beginner like me.
Thank you.
