Hi. What is causing this? Are these red blue Peru tetras eating each other alive or is it a disease?

I wonder if it is eating could dwarf chain loaches be responsible?

Can you post some more pictures? It's kind of hard to tell.

I'll try but they school near the back and it's hard to focus. My frog had his arm bitten off so something is definitely eating things in there.

There is 1 ram, some corydoras, some dwarf chain loach. Loads of cherry shrimp. A school of red blue peru tetra.

If I didn't see the dwarf frog attacked I'd have thought it was a disease.

The dwarf chain loaches have attacked cherry shrimp before.

Ouch that's a clear picture to me. Part of the underside of the fish is missing. Looks like biting.

I would have thought you would have observed this activity. I didn't have this problem with my Dwarf Chain Loaches but suppose it is possible.

I'm not familiar with the Tetra in question and wonder if they are responsible.

Are the fish fed well enough?

I have been feeding them less recently. Just once a day. It might be the cause.

Will the bitten fish recover?

Another horror picture of another fish with a chunk missing :

What could have caused him to go white like that?

fish could be going white due to stress, or possibly that part of his body could have been damaged, reduced blood flow and the tissue their is dying

I would remove the loaches if you think they may be attacking the fish, otherwise you will have e tank full of dead fish. Soemtimes even fish you have had together for a while will turn on each other.

I have seen exact this in other tetras from a friend. We've never found the ecact cause of it, but it seems to be an issue from the inside of the fish (worms ?).

I think I'll euthanise the affected fish and hope the rest stay okay. I can't imagine life is pleasant for them like that.

I have tried watching and really don't think it is the loaches. Seems a strange coincidence that the frog had its arm off, but it could have been from when there were pea puffers in the tank. (The tetras became like this after the puffers were removed)

Contacted my friend Marlonneke last night.
She didn't exactly what happened to her fish but did find some damselflylarvae in her tank. If they caused this is unknown though. A pic of hers (with permission)

Looks exactly like the op.
No one thinks the cichlid in the tank could cause that?

Could be though I hadn't any reports of Rams doing so and asking myself if it would be able to take a bite like this.
yes, why not?

Hi. Sorry for late reply. There were pea puffers in the tank that got taken out the previous week. Could have been them without me noticing. Doesn't seem to be happening anymore. I think the fish that got bitten are all dead now.
