Fish and Zucchini Skin

Good morning,:;co

Feeding tip:

I started feeding all of my fish (mainly my Silver Dollars and Bloody Parrots) the skin from raw Zucchini. I use a potato peeler and peel the green skin from the Zucchini. Then I cut it into tiny squares and feed it to my fish. The Bloody Parrots and Silver Dollars love it!

I had noticed my Pleco sharing his slice of ZucchinI with the Silver Dollars. The Silver Dollars would only eat the green skin and not the meat of the vegetable itself. This is what gave me the idea and too I had run out of Romaine lettuce!

Another veggie entree for my fish! arty0011:

I've fed zucchinI skin for my fish also. And they ate it, but I don't think they liked it as much as the flakes that I usually give them.

I always cut off the skin, in fear that there may be pesticides on it. Is the skin safe after you blanch it?

Good afternoon,

I just rinse the zucchinI before I remove the skin. I've never blanched my veggies. They always get it raw.

Many people cut zuchinnI and cucumbers with the skin on it for salads so I would think it would be ok after a good wash.
Mine get theirs raw also and love it

A new zucchinI tip,

For my Pleco, I started soaking his zucchinI slice in Garlic Guard and Vita Chem, diluted with water, after I push the algae wafer into the zucchini. Twice a week.

He loves it!

HI Steve,

I use plant anchors to weigh my zucchinI and Romaine lettuce too:

Good morning Steve,

I use the entire leaf on the Romaine lettuce. I just break it off at the base, rinse it, weight it and let it sink .

Will it float if it's raw? and Can the veggie be frozen, so it will keep longer?, and what is the time limit for keeping raw veggies in a tank? 1-2 days?

I just saw saw the link above.. haha sorry!

Good morning,

I've never frozen my fresh veggies.

I would suggest removing any uneaten raw veggies after 8 to 12 hours at the most.

When I feed my Silver Dollars Romaine lettuce, there is nothing left but a stump and the plant anchors after about 2 hours so I remove it.

The Pleco will feed off of the zucchinI for about 2 hours too. Once he leaves the slice I remove it.

My Otos never leave the cucumber.
The Otos love spinach leaves as well.
