Fish afraid of the dark? Lol

So I have my light cycle program to automatically run for 8 hours. Other than that my room is really dark most of the day. The only other time the lights come on are in the morning. Now I've noticed, first thing in the morning when I feed my fish, my Buenos Aires have very little color. I turn the lights back out and go to work. In the evenings after I get home they are brightly colored again. Could they be stressed over the lack of light maybe? It's very odd. My water parameters obviously don't change in that amount of time. So the light is the only thing I can think of causing that. Has anyone else ran into a similar issue? Or do my bully fish need a nightlight? Lol. The Cory's will tease them for it I hope.

It’s pretty standard for the colour of fish to go away as they rest in the dark .

On the subject of night lights.
Its not uncommon for people with fish rooms that have all the windows boarded up to use night lights.
Only if the room is total darkness would I recommend it.

There's no reason to have bright colours on you if it's dark out. Quite a lot of fish (and shrimp etc...) will become dull and brightly coloured on a daily cycle. As long as your fish seem healthy I wouldn't worry about it.

That makes sense. My windows are blacked out. The Cory's and the gouramis don't mind. But I may just look into a small blue led light for them. Or a lighted airstone. Thank you.

My solo male Apisto (in my avatar) does a fantastic impersonation of a hungover human first thing in the morning.

Blue lights come on initially and there he is in all over drab grey, yawning his head off and looked decidedly foggy brained and not with it at all :)

Dark pink lights come on an hour later and he knows its breakfast time....he is alert and returned to his normal vibrant colouring again.

The rest of the fish in my other aquariums follow the exact same lighting process but only he looks like he has been dragged through a hedge backwards and hungover in the mornings....he isn't a morning fish at all.
