First Timer. 20 Gallon Tank

Hey all!

Newcomer to the fish world. Looking for some advice on the optimum fish population for the 3 species I currently have in my freshwater fish tank (20 gallons).

I have (2) Neon Tetras, (2) Dalmation Mollies and 1 Red Minor Tetra.

I am hoping to stick with these 3 species. So my question is how many of each species should I add to the tank for all species fish to feel comfortable?

I'm thinking adding 4 Neon Tetras, 1 more Red Minor, and 2 or 3 more Dalmaton Mollies. Would this be overpopulating the tank?

Any advice is welcome!

Get the tetras in school. 6 or more in a school is needed.
For mollies, you can get one more

You will need at least 4 more neon tetras to make a complete school. Dalmatian mollies are not schooling fish so you can add more if you want but you don't need to. And I have never had red minor tetras, but sense they are tetras they are probably schooling fish which means you would need at least 6.

Welcome to fishlore!
Mollies get fairly big (5 inches), and imo, just one or two in a 20 gallon is overstocked, as they also have a huge bioload.
Bump up each tetra school to 6, as they are schoolers.

You may just be able to squeeze a Bolivian ram instead of an extra Molly

I'd take the mollies out and get a BR (or something else) instead.....

So what kind of tank would it take to raise some mollies? I can't get rid of them now

I'll look into the Bolivian Rams, thanks!

I'd go at least a 29 gallon to have it with other fish.
