Hey guys it's my first time posting on this part of the forum.
I just got my first killifish last week and I've had a few bumps in the road with him and have decided to try a mild treatment of aquarium salt and paraguard. I've never used salt as a water additive before so this is something new to me. It's a 3.4 gallon tank and I'm using API aquarium salt. The first night I took out a cupful of his tank water and stirred 1 tsp of salt until it was completely dissolved. I poured half in and another half after a half hour. Last night I did the same bringing the total amount of salt to 2 tsps. I didnt want to add any more because I couldn't find any information on killifish sensitivity to salt. He responded well after the second dose of salt and I think it would be healthy to keep a lesser amount of salt in the tank at all times after hes healed but I understand freshwater keepers have different opinions on that.
What do you think about health benefits of doing this? I should note I have amazon sword and anubias in the tank that I'm hoping will be okay.
Does anyone with a planted tank keep low doses of salt?
My main question however is the effect salt has on my apI test kit. Will it have any effect on the accuracy of my test kit?
Lastly this may seem dumb, but does salt ever adversely effect the BB in the tank (not a large overdose, just reasonable amount)?
Thank you for anyone who can help me out on this one!
