LHAquatics

February 20, 2021: Started cycling the fish tank
April 3, 2021: Added 3 Albino COrydoras and 2 platies
April 10, 2021: Added 5 pepper corydoras and 5 sunburst platies
On that same day, one of the pepper corydoras died of whirling disease and one of the new platies died of stress. And the betta is hiding and not eating.
April 11, 2021: My uncle bought me 2 harlequin rasboras without me know. I told him that they need to be in groups and will be buying 4 more next week. I am also planning to return the peppers and replace them iwth albinlo corydoras because the albinos look better in the black substrate. ALso, the betta is a female and is pretty chill.
Extra Info:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nirate: about 5ppm

LHAquatics

Today 2 Harelqui rasboras died. I think I know the reason why. Also, a female platy died. Now, an Albino corydoras (the one I got) has whirling disease and is really lethargic. It won't eat, move, or do anything. The betta hides almost all the time and still won't eat and a white thing is hanging from it. The platies have ich. To treat that, I already ordered ICH X. I aquascaped the tank so that I can add more hiding places. Everything is a mess right now, but I gotta stay patient, optimistic, and have hope.

GuppyGal7

How big is the tank?

LHAquatics

. Also one of the female platies is staying on the bottom, I think it is in labor.
This is the one that died.
Ahh, nice. Got any other stocking plans?
I wanna add more platies and more harlequins. I am also planning to add an AMazon Sword. I might add shrimp, so far no, but maybe.
1 betta
4 Harlequins
2 female platies
2 male platies
3 Albino corydoras (the one with the SWD died )

This is the one that died.
That's unfortunate, but don't worry. Sometimes pregnant livebearers die before or after giving birth. As long as your gender ratio is good, you don't need to get any more platys. They'll breed.

They are different varieties so I don't think they will breed.

Different strains can still breed my friend. You're gonna get some cool colour combinations. Just have a good gender ratio otherwise your females will be stressed.

LHAquatics

I rescapaed the tank and did a 20% water change. A platy's nose got stuck in the filter intake and sadly died. The betta is hiding less. The cories are also getting more comfortable. PLants are slightly growing. Water parameters are good. One of the harlequins has fungus and ick (I think its fungus). Almost all the fish have ich by now. The betta is still a little pale and I've no reason why. That's the update for today Oh, and one last thing, there are tons of baby snails Here are a ton of pictures. Enjoy

Sorry to hear about the Ich, I wouldn't add any more tankmates until the Ich is under control. What's your betta's name?

Awwwww. Cute! If you ever need help diagnosing something post a pic of the sick fish.

How is she looking. She is new and kind of pale.

I'd blame that on the fact most bettas are not treated very well where they're bred. Was she like this when you got her? The Ich is probably not helping. Medication is stressful for fish.

Yes, I got her from petsmart

Then it's stress from mistreatment combined with the Ich medication. Continue to medicate the tank. She should get better. Is she behaving normally?

nope. she doesn't eat hides, and go gulps air and goes back into hiding. But not, she has been in the corner of the tank for a long time. Next to the thermometer

Hmm, and your treating the tank for ich, right? Can I see some photos of the affected fish?

Leeman75

Something that I wonder about is if it may help to get some more decor in there, particularly with some height. 29 Gallon tanks are tall and there is a lot of open space there. It may make the fish feel a little safer and more secure to not feel like they're in open water.

Another thought I just had when looking at your Betta at the top of the tank and the tank overall...is there much agitation and oxygen getting into the tank? You may want to consider either adding a small sponge filter (I have a sponge filter in addition to HOBs in almost all my tanks) or at least an air stone to get some of that oxygen into the water.

SIP SuSu
I removed the intake part because that was the reason SuSu died . Instead, I shoved some filter media into the intake tube. **Graphic Picture**

JLAquatics

Hey, Cory04, sorry to hear about your Betta, I can relate myself as countless shrimp died this way in my tank before knowing about it and covering up the intake. It's not your fault this happened. On another note, I got news for you. You see how the right Rasbora looks different than the other two in this screenshot of yours? It is smaller and has a brighter more vivid orange tone with a more lambchop like marking instead of a triangle? Well, it looks to me that you accidentally got a Lambchop (Espei) Rasbora mixed in with your Harlequins. I own 13 Lambchop Rasboras that I got from PetSmart labeled as Harlequin Rasboras. It seems the two fish get mixed up all the time, and they have the same care requirements so I wouldn't worry about it. I just thought it would be good for you to know that the one Rasbora on the right is not a Harlequin at all.

I was really suspicious because they weren't schooling. Thank you!

The ich treatment is going really well. I think by after tomorrow I will be officially done.

Great! Remember, you should continue treatment for at least a week after symptoms go away (I prefer doing at at a lower dose) and then monitor everyone for the next month. If a month goes by with no signs of Ich, it's gone.

LHAquatics

I don't see any signs of ich, not a single grain. I will do a medication today and tomorrow and that will be it. I will also set up a quarantine tank.

Nice! Most people recommend you continue to treat for 1-2 weeks after symptoms are gone. The parasite could still be in the water after all. I'd treat at a lower dose of 20-50% for at least a week, just to be safe.

ok, ill do half a dose for a week. I got the smaller ich x and it might run out

LHAquatics

Ich is officially gone, the fish are healthy and eating. I will get new fish after probably 2 weeks because I still have to step up a quarantine tank :)

Following! :)

Big changes coming :D

LHAquatics

I did these steps from before but was too lazy to write in this journal, but here goes.
1. Black Background (pictures later)
I just took a black poster and taped it to the back

LHAquatics

Background (check)
Plants (will add more, but check)
Removed wood (check)
I will add more plants. I got a sponge filter for the quarantine tub to cycle it. I will keep it in for about 3 days then put it in the tub. I will add fish food in the tub to cycle it even more. The plants are 2 Dwarf Aquarium Lillies, moneywort, and water sprite. I will still water wisteria, amazon sword, and probably a cryptocoryne. I removed the driftwood because no matter how hard I tried I couldn't scape it. It was too small and desveres to be a centerpiece wood. I don't have any root tabs or liquid fertilizers. I will also get a new stand. I definitely learned my lesson to get everything first then start the build. I was impatient and that made it harder for me. I got the tank on February 19, and the tank isn't still 100% ready.
Edit: the heater for the quarantine tub just arrived with the aquarium slat and some fish foods :D
