First Saltwater Tank - my plan

Hello! I’m thinking of eventually starting a saltwater tank. First, I want to get a handle on my two Betta fish and do a lot of additional research. After that, I’d like to save up some money and gradually set up the tank with sand and live rock. I’ll also purchase saltwater mix, an API Saltwater Master Test Kit, a protein skimmer, a reverse osmosis water filter, power heads, and two heaters. Next, I’ll do a fish-less cycle using pure ammonia and let it stabilize for a few months.

I’m currently looking at a tall thirty-five gallon tank that a friend at work has offered me. Would a single Tomato Clownfish be a good fit for this? What other advice do you have?

Welcome to the salty side, first bit of advise work out what you think it will cost and then budget twice that. Then check out a few of the fishlore advise sections and another simple guide is avaliable at
Biggest tip, try to find pacience as the slower you start the tank the easier it will be. Good luck

Tomato clowns can get very nasty as they grow. You may want to consider a different clown if you want other fish in the tank.

kaz1961 Do Tomato Clownfish do okay in a tank by themselves?

Sure a Tomato would be fine by itself in the tank but I suspect that you are going to want more fish after you get him. This is an addictive hobby!
