First Planted Tank - 35 gallon tall

hello, I am planning on setting up my 35 gallon tall fish tank. I plan to do a mix of live and fake plants. I plan on using play sand or sand blasting sand for my substrate. I plan on doing 50 lbs of it in my tank. Will this be enough? I am also looking for suggestions on low tech plants. I am thinking about doing some amazon swords and anubias. I plan on getting a piece of driftwood for the centerpiece of my tank. Thank you for any help.

It would be borderline enough if you space it right. You can do some anubias, java fern, and moss. which are all hardy and low light + you attach to driftwood. You could also do swords and some beginner crypts with root tabs that can be planted. Make sure you clean the sand first!

I personally wouldn't bother with the fake plants. You will need the space for real plants once you see how much more natural it looks with them in there. Bacopa is a pretty fast growing less demanding stem plant. Good luck!!

would plants grow fine if I used root tabs with pool filter sand or sand blasting sand?

Yep! I personally use play sand and plants have no issues.
