after a week of no nitrites during a fish in cycle, my apI water kit has detected .25 of nitrite!

.25 ammonia
.25 nitrite
0 nitrate

do I need to pwc immediately? or can I wait until morning?

Someone on here told me if ammo and nitrites combined are greater than 1.0ppm do a PWC, less than 1.0ppm- Prime and test again tomorrow.

What size is your tank? Are you using Prime? If so Prime can detoxify up to 1ppm so the above poster would be correct.

Quick question: are you using TSS? Or just fish only

Hello ann...

You need to test the tank water every day for traces of ammonia or nitrite. If you have a positive test, remove one-quarter of the old water and replace it with treated tap water. This will get the water chemistry back into a safer level for the fish and still allow the good bacteria to grow. Just test daily and remove the water when needed. When you have several daily tests with no traces of the above forms of nitrogen, the tank is cycled. At this point, you just change out half or more of tank water weekly to maintain the tank.

36 gallon and yes I use prime! I did a second test and it was closer to 1ppm so I did a 25% change last night with extra prime and today all is good, 0 nitrites
and there isn't any tss where I live so just fish and bb from my lfs! I did my second round of bb the day before the spike so I think that may have kicked things up a bit
