First Fish Drama!

I had my first fish drama! So today I added 6 neon tetras to my tank, didnt even think about the size of the gaps on my filter intake tube. Anywho did a quick head count and thought id lost one, didnt think anything of it as they had just gone in and were all hiding in the plants, about an hour later I checked again...still missing one, happened to look at the filter intake and there he was white as a sheet and stuck fast! I thought the poor little thing was dead, reached in and knocked him free and off he went, swimming away as if nothing had happened!!! He seems to be a bit sluggish now but his colour returned almost straight away, hoping he'll make it :-( he better had! I sacrificed my favourite pair of tights as an emergency cover over the pipe!

 

I worried about this when I added my neons. They we're TINY when I got then but luckily nobody got sucked up. So glad you found yours in time! Hope he will be ok.

I never thought I would get so attached to these little ones! But I was so upset haha made me feel like a terrible fish mother!

Haha. I'm the same way. I set this tank up for my son. As expected he lost interest and now I'm obsessed with them. Like all animals, I hate seeing anything bad happen to them.

 

To prevent any more neons getting stuck to the filter intake, you can either get a piece of soft sponge or brand-new pantyhose over the intake. Thin netting would also work (there are breeder nets that have detachable netting).
