Firemouth, blue acara and geophagus...will this work in a 40 breeder (44.9g)?

Geophagus, not in a 40b.

A firemouth and Blue Acara, yes, but the firemouth might be a little too aggressive towards the Blue Acara.

Ok, what would be a good 3rd cichlid of the same temperament, ph, and is from same region would work? Or maybe some dithers...perhaps tiger barbs?

If you want a single fish to go with the BA and the firemouth you can look at a convict as an option.

If you want dither fish you could look at Colombian Tetras. I had them in my 90g tank for almost a year until the BP I had started to pick them off...so I transferred the remaining 13 into my 55g.
