Finnex lights on rimed tanks

HI experts

I am considering upgrading my lighting to either the Finnex 24/7 or Finnex FugeRay lights. I am low tech with liquid co2 and flourish ferts 3 times per week. I have variety of plans from swords, crypts, Java fern, wisteria, anubias, moss, etc. I use Beamswork lights (at 25 x 10,000k in the 30") so the 24/7 would almost double and the FugeRay, triple my lighting.

First off, which Finnex! Would the FugeRay be too much without co2 setup?

Secondly, do these work on rimmed tanks? I tried a stingray and it wouldn't clip onto the rI'm and I ended up just resetting in top the glass, which I don't like.

What size tank is this for? Tank height is important for estimating PAR levels.

I set my Finnex fixtures on the glass too. You could always rig them to hang?

It's a 37 gallon so rather deep hence the upgrade. I believe it's 30L, 24H and 12D. Super high ceiling so hanging would be challenging.

Do you have floating plants? Mine were burnt up when the light sat on top.

You don't have to hang from the ceiling. There are some sleek looking DIY setup where metal poles are attached to the stand in the back and they arch over the top of the tank to hang the light.

I have floating wisteria. The light doesn't kill them, though they don't grow as well as the planted ones past a certain size.

Something to consider . Thanks!

Which would you go with Texas? The FugeRay or planted plus 24/7???

I am thinking the FugeRay would increase my co2 and fert needs?

So it looks like the Ray would put you at very low light at 24":

The Ray2 is a bit brighter, but I'm not sure you'd need CO2 at a 24" depth.

I couldn't find 24/7 PAR rating at for a 30" fixture at 24", but I'd guess that it's between the Ray and the Ray2.

Interesting. I have been researching based on the 'k' value of lights. I shop on Ebay/Amazon.

From what I have found....

BeamsWork 30" (my current light) is 25x10,000k (250,000), 6x actinic, 3x red, 2x green. 1700 lumen.

Finnex Stingray 30" is 32x 7000k (224,000), 5x660nm red, 8x actinic

Finnex 24/7 Planted Plus 30" is 56x7000 (392,000), 28 RGB full color

Finnex FugeRay Planted + is 104x7000k (728,000), 56x660nmred, 8x actinic blue

I am not sure how 'par' is determined (I know depth is in the formula) but from reviews I have read the overall k is important.

Any thoughts on this?

I love the thought of the 24/7 lighting system ... I'd love one on my 20 long since its in my living room. It's pretty shallow, but I know nothing about PAR and lighting needs!

Okay I read about PAR and it seems there is some varying info as to its significance. But I had to bite the bullet and order so I am trying the Ray2 since it's a deep tank. Hopefully I won't have algae problems with this! Now onto reading about betta sororities

Is that one listed out above?

Yes the Fuge Ray (I believe) is the one also referred to as the Ray2.

So the K value is the temp of the light. You don't multiply it by the number of bulbs. It's what it is.

Here's an explanation of PAR:

Thanks texasdomer! My Finnex is arriving Tuesday....

If it's too strong, which given PAR it shouldn't be due to the depth of this tank, would cutting down the hours it's on reduce algae? This tank gets some sunlight so is the toughest tank to keep algae at bay in.

Yes, you can reduce the amount of time the lights are on. You can also raise the fixture.

If the sunlight is causing the algae, reducing the time and raising it won't help.

It's not bad really....just a bit more film on the glass than the others. I started using excel a few weeks ago and it's mch much better!

It was a 20 and the current light is from that tank.
