Fine sand for a planted tank?

Hello all, just got a new 60 gallon tank and want to do a tank with beginner plants. Know absolutely nothing about aquarium plants. I had read on here about black diamond blasting sand and thought it would be a good money saving idea. I sent my wife up to tractor supply and ended up with the fine sand. Will plants grow with this substrate? I'm ok with root tabs if I have to, hope I haven't messed up again lol

Thank you so much for your response, seems like the internet gives you a lot of ways to second guess yourself

If you haven't already added it to the tank, be aware that Black Diamond sandblasting sand needs a lot of rinsing.

Yes it took a while to rinse it. It pretty much settled out by the next morning. I do wonder what will happen when I get some cory catfish in the tank. Seems like it clouds up pretty quick.

As you probably already know, there are different grades. Corys don't stir mine up at all, but if you have a finer grade they might. If they do you might want to think about getting a bag of the coarser grade and adding an inch on top of the existing substrate.

Yes I have been debating doing that. What grade did you go with?

Regarding sand and cory catfish. My daughter's tank has pool filter sand and bronze cory catfish. The cory's stir up the sand all the time. It's fun to watch. They suck the sand up and filter it out their gills. In fact, they do such a good job stirring the sand, I don't have to do it myself.
