Finally Got Mourning Geckos!

Hey everyone so I was at the white plains expo today picking up a bunch of new cages for my cresties and out of the corner of my eye I caught what I thought to be a mourning gecko so I of course asked and they were. I’ve been after these little guys for forever now love that they’re parthogenic and hopefully I will have babies by the end of the year. I ended up a getting a trio of normals for my 12 inch cube exo terra. But let me just say proofing the tank was nearly impossible I never realized how many tiny cracks exo terras how. I ended up taking a piece of airline tubing and cutting in half to seal off the doors and then I covered the vents in electrical tape from the inside and outside so heres to hoping they can’t escape! But anyways here’s some pictures

And finally a fill tank shot it’s a little emptier than what I wanted but I didn’t have enough time to set up a bioactive setup so maybe I’ll be converting in the future

They’re cute and incredibly good at hide and seek! Only been able to keep eyes on 2 one of them has completely disappeared but I don’t see how she could’ve gotten out she’s one impressive gecko if she escaped all the tape

Hey, I was there too! I didn't buy anything, though, except a sandwich and cheese fries, lol.

White plains is a great expo everything is so much cheaper and all vendors are really nice. I can’t wait for November they’re opening up the bottom floor and effectively doubling booth space and vendors it’s gonna be great!

Thank you!!

Hopefully I’ll be able to get it on video but the social interactions between these little guys is amazing they make a little chirp noise and dance at each other it’s pretty entertaining not to mention the pseudo mating techniques that these little guys use! I think I have one who might be ready to lay eggs soon!

They’re amazing! Extremely hard to tell if they’re eating or not but I’m guessing they are. I’m currently offering a buffet of 3 types of Pangea and repashy. Their behavior is amazing if they see me move they’re immediately chirping to each other to hide it’s quite cute. Hoping for some eggs real soon! Gold dusts are actually next on my list of geckos hoping I can pick some up in 2 or 3 months

Well sadly I pulled the smallest of the three just now and she’s dead. it appears that she has not been eating however I have eyes on one other and she is nice and plump and has been eating. I haven’t been able to find the second one left but hopefully he’s still alive. Not 100% sure why this one never ate but the others seem okay for now. I’m also converting them to a bio active set up sometime this week or next week. Anyone have any ideas on how to catch two of the smallest geckos I know where one consistently is so not too hard to catch her it’s the second one I’m worried about

Darnit... I knew I'd seen mourning geckos here on Fishlore but when chatting on Pan's thread, I didn't realize that it was your thread that first introduced me to these awesome girls. I'm saddened by your loss and know you are much more so... however, I must thank you for sharing because it was this thread that allowed me to know what I saw at Repticon... and that made me confident enough to talk to the breeder a little bit... and as you know, mourning geckos are now on my list. So, thank you very much indeed, Ned.

Glad I could help! The losses really hurt but I’m glad I have at least this one I’ll probably end up ordering a few more from joshsfrogs or finding another breeder to get more from st the next white plains expo. They truly are some of the best little things out there!! I’m hoping to get a colony of 5 or 6 to be able to pump out eggs sometime soon they seem to be getting harder to find in my area now!
