10 Gallon Tank Finally decided what to do with the 10!

I decided to go to the creek today, and saw that it was dry except for a few ponds. Their all pretty "species only" lol. One has frogs, one had snails, and one had minnows. I decided to grab a few snails along with some moss and a plant that was fully submerged. I tried to catch minnows but they're too smart for me and my Disney cup
So I think I'll be making the 10 a "native" tank, mostly planted aside from the snails and a couple minnows if I can catch some. I think I'd like the look of it. I'll probably get some rocks and what it from the creek and pretty much just take a 10 gallon size area of creek and put it in the classroom at the rate our weather is going, those small
Ponds will dry up soon and all the fishies will go with it :/

Sounds like a good idea! Just make sure you don't mix the stuff you get from the lake with your pet store fish. They can interchange diseases.

make sure those "minnows" are actually minnows and not baby fish. also you should look in to pygmy sunfish. gilbertI is what I'm getting.

I don't plan on putting any pet store fishies in there

They aren't babies. I've caught them before. There's one catfish in the creek that someone put there years ago though lol. But that's the only "big" fish there. He's huge, too! Nobody has ever been able to catch him

My catch of the day lol. Pond snails and two that have that typical snail like shell, like mystery snails.

A net. Smart lol. I'll pick mine up tomorrow and try for it again. If I get real desperate I'll drink the pond dry ;P

lol go for it! drink up! You might be surprised how not bad it would be for ya.

Then again I might sugest a sponge and moving the water elsewhere lol or use a siphon to move it.

Once, When I needed to catch a bunch of fish in a small area I went out and just got a bunch of small mesh netting (quite often sold chealpy in craft stores) bought a few yards, basically enough to cover the area. Put the netting in the water, the fish went running of course, however all I wanted to do was get the net to the bottom. I waited a bit and the fish made their way back towards the center. I grabbed the corners and netted the little area worth of fish.

Here's the two thatre different from the bunch.

And a pic of the temp. Setup till tomorrow morning. About 10 hours till. They go in their roomy tank they have the moss in there and the water is from the creek.

I'm thinking I won't need a heater since its native and the water out there right now is def. less than 60 degrees. I may even lower the water level of the tank a bit to simulate the exact environment make it as real as possible

Yea as I was looking in there tho, I saw little bug larvae? Not sure what they are. They almost look like shrimp, with that shell that lets them bend and all those feet. They're clearish white and zoom around real quick, sometimes stopping to eat the algae on the big daddy snails shells lol. They're probably 2mm long at the most, I think they hitched a ride in my moss -.- oh well hopefully the minnows will eat them. Nom.

There's a lot of weird things at the creek to say the least. I wouldn't call where I live bad, but there's so much litter and whatnot down there it's kinda sad :/ there's a huge tractor tire in the creek that's been there for years, as well as a lot of metal pieces and concrete, which has all been there forever as far as I know. It's hard to get down there so I know nobody could've dumped it. My guess is it was dumped when they built the neighborhood. The only way to get to the creek is by foot, climbing, and sliding lol.
I'm quite excited about this project I may even try to just go fish for the bigger guys for fun tomorrow. I've seen a perch or two in there before. As well as red-eared-sliders. And a deer o.o an a dog. Hehe. That's Astin, TX for you
Keep Austin weird!
