Finally, another treat that Betta will eat!

Before today, he was only eating regular food, blood worms, and pea pieces. She said no to brine shrimp and daphnia (Ricktavious also didn't like daphnia, mine must be broken).

Last week, I read that Cyclop-eeze was a good treat for bettas that they love, and will also bring out color. Bought some and fed a little to hI’m earlier today, and she seemed to really enjoy it! Glad that the little gal has another food to add to her diet.

LOL, yeah it's exciting to find something they'll actually eat. They're worse than cats!

Is this a frozen food?

Is this a frozen food?

It is freeze dried....found it in the fish food section of Petsmart.

And you are right, they are such finicky eaters!!!! So glad to find extra treats for my little lady!

It does come in frozen form too but the freeze dried is so much nicer to work with.

My guys are so darned spoiled I'm sure they'd turn their cute little noses up at freeze dried.

My little ones are very spoiled too but they actually prefer freeze dried foods. I have gotten them fresh and frozen foods and they do not seem to know what to do with them and they just let them fall to the bottom of the tank and I get to go fishing after them. So I gave up and get them what they WILL eat.

Bettas are such picky little folks, you can actually almost apply for bankruptcy trying to find food for them.

we've not had trouble with ours & frozen foods. thawing them in a rubbermaid container of treated water and using tweezers to drop small amounts in the tanks (or 1 at a time with worms) seems to work really well and we've gotten rid of the freeze dried equivalents.

My Honey is a nightmare to feed!! What on earth is Cyclop-eeze??

I love Honey to bit's and pieces and am always looking for new food for her to 'spit out!'

She spits out daphnia, brine shrimp, hikarI betta pellets, blood worms, frozen pellet mix, nishI pellets , peas....blah...blahh so what are these cyclops things???

My betta, all four of them like everything I have given them from plain old pellets to Tetra Betta tropical medley to frozen blood worm. We've got a brine shrimp factory today so we'll see how all of our fish will like that.
I haven't heard of Cyclop-eeze either.

It is very similar to daphnia but supposed to be more nutritious. It is actually a small crustacean that has a shell and all so it provides a lot of fiber in their diet as well as a lot of protein as it is a natural food without additives like starch and cereal products. If the fish does not like daphnia, I would not purchase the large amount of it though as it would not be sure to take to the Cyclopeeze. I give my fish daphnia instead of pea treats sometimes and also when they are sick the daphnia is more accepted than bloodworms. I DO however soak all my freeze-dried foods in Garlic Guard before adding them to the tank so they are not really DRY when they hit the water. Fish love garlic and even picky eaters will go after food that has been treated with garlic juice or some additive with garlic in it. It also improves their immune system. (just like it does for us)

Rose i've tried soaking all their freeze dried stuff in garlic juice, makes no difference to Honey. One of my LFS guys asked if she was conditioning herself for breeding, ?? She must be eating something, I often wonder if she is eating the minI ramshorn snails in her tank, or the squiggles that come out at night?! She is a minx of the highest order!!

Does she have any other fish in with her? I am sorry but I could not tell in your signature. If so she could be eating the food that you are feeding them. They get so silly sometimes and will eat anything that they do not think they are supposed to have. They can be so naughty and yet so lovable. Honey is getting food somewhere or she would be showing signs of being ill and she is evidently a little pip so she is doing okay for herself. Sounds like you have a real little stinker there and you should enjoy every minute of her naughtiness as they are the ones that make life VERY interesting.

have you tried the frozen food cubes, thawed in treated water on Honey?

Rose Honey is a true gem, she is the one i'd love to carry everywhere with me!! She is alone in her tank and MUST be eating as is full if colour, bright eyes. If my mum tries to feed her mum says she looks at the food then back at mum with disgust before swimming off! At least she picks it up and spits it out for me!! HEHE.

Dave we have freeze dried frozen pellets, occaisionally she will eat one or 2 of them but when the mood suits!!

Mum calls her 'the madam'. I must be mad, my horse is cheeky/naughty and so is my female rabbit. I LOVE these little challenges!!

even our most picky betta ever, Sora, would gladly eat the thawed, frozen bloodworms.. if you can get hikarI brand, that's what we get & recommend. I believe it to be a safe food.

It really does take very little food to keep them healthy and well fed, in fact there have been articles written on fish obesity because one cause of ill health in fish is overfeeding and heart disease due to too much fat in their systems. It is so funny that humans tend to do this to their pets (not ha-ha funny) as well as their kids.

She is finding food in her tank somehow and just daring you to come up with something that she will like. I had one like that and nearly went bonkers trying to find a food for him. It did finally end up being HikarI Freeze-dried bloodworms. Now in cases like this fish, brand names matter. Some fish will only eat a certain brand of a type of food. It gets that bad. I have found that if there is a brand that a betta will accept over and above any other it is HikarI for some reason. It does cost more, naturally but they pay attention to the size of the bites they expect the fish to take and they must do something in the processing as I have never had a fish refuse that brand. The other premium brands I have spent a fortune on have looked okay but have either been too big for their mouths or the bettas just plain did not like them for some reason. So now I feel like I have a shelf full of HikarI and Atison's products (Atison's for the young bettas and they love the pellets but as soon as they get big enough for the bloodworms they transfer to them)

I guess that is why she likes the frozen pellets as they are high guilty expensive german brand ones!! The others, all tanks get them as treats and go mad for them. There are 3 types of pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimpa and I forget the other. As for HikarI i've only found betta pellets to date. I have 2 fish stores that I trust, one is on the look out for food for them for me, he's great. Gives me free samples his reps give him!! He doesn't keep many 'fighters' as he say most that buy them are dumb and try to keep them in a community tank despite his advice so he avoids that happening by only having the odd few now and then.

Thanks for your advice both of you, I'll search again for garlic guard, more hikarI products and I know I can send for atisons over here. I guess I just have a naughty muppet on my hands!!
