10 Gallon Tank Fin Rot or Rip?

Hi all!

I just got 5 guppies for my 10 gallon tank. Yes it is cycled, as I transferred a filter cartridge from an already established tank. One of the guppies has a "rip" in his tail. Is it fin rot, a result of fin nipping, or something else? He is a fancy guppy male. Thank you.

 

Looks more like a rip or tear. Doesn't look to be any rot. Too clean of a cut. Finrot is usually more on the edges and not very even. Probably got caught on something is my guess. I would do 25-30% water changes at the least every couple days to prevent infection.

Okay, thank you! I thought it was this as well I wasn't sure because it was so "clean". Do you think that my "brand new" just introduced guppies will be stressed out because of the frequent water changes? I just got them so I am not sure if they won't get stressed.

I think they’ll be ok . Guppy’s are pretty hardy and water changes shouldn’t be very stressful. Especially if you only do 25% water changes.
