Fin Rot Betta Emergency

Please help me! So I have a plakat betta currently in a filtered heated 2.5 g. He used to be in a 10 g, and was recovering very well from his fin rot (daily water changes 25% with stress guard and IAL). So I decided to go out of town for a week and leave my brother and niece to care for him. While I was gone, the silicon in my old ten gallon started flaking off and making the water filthy. They couldn’t contact me so moved him to my spare 2.5 g without acclimating him or cycling the tank. As soon as I heard what happened I came home and added a capful of prime to the tank with stress guard and an IAL. The bettas fin rot doesn’t seem to have worsened, but he’s just super lethargic breathing weird with clamped fins. A couple scales are loose and looking rough but not quite pine coning. I had planned to move him to my well-established 29 g until I can find a new place to set up a 10 g but I’m worried it will add more stress to him... Any advice or tips? Thanks!

Fanatic thank you! I used to have him in a 2.5 g and changed the water every other week. I think that’s how he got it. I then realized my mistake and moved him to a cycled 10 g and changed the water every day 25% with an IAL. He thrived but after the move emergency he is the traits as I said above. His fin rot hasn’t worsened so I don’t think that’s the problem as I’ve seen fin growth

I am sorry that your betta is sick!

Fin rot is caused by poor water quality, which the main cause is the water isn't being changed enough, or there is something in it that greatly bothers him.
My bettas have never had fin rot, so I can't speak from experience, but I do know how treating fin rot works
You need to have a cycled tank, it's essential. I recommend that you start changing the water every day for the next week or two until improvement is noticeable.

I do not use medications for this or recommend it as a first choice, so water changes will do wonders on fin rot.
Some people use aquarium salt, which is totally fine, but personally, I never use medications.
Let me know how everything goes.

It’s hard to see from yellow tint but he’s looking grey and he’s not really moving. Please help! Should I move him to the 29 gallon?

For fin rot (and all other diseases ) the best defence is warm clean water. Only use medicine as a last resort I would recommend changing 25% of the water everyday until he gets better and stop using medicine right away. Also is your tank heated? Filtered? If so could the filter be tearing his fins? Do you have any sharp decorations that could be tearing his fins?

He is acting much better. I think the sudden move without acclimating just super stressed him out. His filter is powered by an air pump and very gentle. The temp is 78. The decorations are all silk and smooth. Do y’all think that it would be ok to add him to my 29 gallon community tank today?

Oh okay sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes and no it depends what's in your community and the temperament of your betta.
