Fin holes and discolouration

I got a rosetail Betta, the first month he was ok, then he got fin rot. It was treated and but his fins keep ripping or getting holes in them. Is this due to him still having fin rot or could it be something like getting his fins sucked into filter intake?
He has been through 2 sets of aquarium salt treatments (aquarium staffs advice). His fins are also losing colour, he is such a pretty boy but I have no idea how to fix his fin problems. what his fins look like now what they used to be

Do you know what size tank he is in and what parameters there are? Temp, ammonia, nitrates, WC schedule etc?

If you are worried about the intake you can look into putting a sponge over the intake - this will actually increase the amount of BB and improve water quality.

He is in a 10 gallon tank, his water is good. (We have a testing kit, I don't remember the numbers but its good) his temp is at 78 C

The nitrite and ammonia levels are around 0ppm. All the plants are live in his tank. There is a betta log and smooth trunk (fake) that he hides in, and a moss ball.

We were told to do 20 ish % water changes every week, and not to do 100% changes cause he is the only fish.

I would increase those to 30%

I'd pick up the API Fungus Cure I mentioned or their Furan 2 product. Both will treat the fin rot.

What was the salt treatment they had you do? Was he cured after each treatment?

First treatment was 3 days at a low dosage, the 2nd treatment was at a stronger dosage. Both times while he was quarantined in a container and a 100% water change was done in his tank. We were told to try to use betta revive if it didn't work.

His fins got better but then started to lose colour and now its shredded.

We are currently trying Melafix as recommended by the aquarium shop we go to.

Melafix probably is not strong enough to take care of his fin rot and is generally not recommended for bettas at all due to complications it can cause with their labyrinth organ.

So it is possible that he still has fin rot?

They don't have grey tips which is a good sign and they do appear to have lots of clear growth on the ends which is a good sign. Do you see them slowly mending together as the days go on.

How much salt exactly did they have you use out of curiosity?

From the container he was in we used about 1/8 teaspoon of salt I think.

His fins seem to mend then we notice the tears in them, so they mend then get all tattered.

Is there any way that part of the trunk could be catching his fins? Maybe just a kind of rough patch?

We checked with really sensitive material before we bought it. It's all smooth.
We ended up covering the filter intake with nylon, his tale doesn't seem to have any new tears, which is good.

Just an update, his tail is healing, its taking a while and colour is slowly returning! All we changed was covering the intake filter with nylon.
