Filter Upgrade Sump Or Canister …

I've run my 100 gallon for many years with really little problems, and test also well 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and below 5ppm nitrates.

Reading through the forums for some time now, I'm quite sure I'm not that diligent with filtration maybe going even below 100g/h flow rate. It runs with UGF and a small canister (DIY) powered with a 300L/h pump pipelined with 9W UV sterilizer.

Lately I moved to fresh/frozen DIY food instead of flakes/pellets, and I'm doing fertilization and excel which has improved my plants … a lot.

Thinking to upgrade the conditions I would like to explore what's the recommended options for proper filtration volumes …

a- canister (Sunsun 304B or similar)
b- sump (30g or larger), my tank is not drilled
c- other options? Contigency plan (I use to stay away from home more than a week at a time)?

Pros/Cons ?

personally I use many sunsun, ehiem, aquatop and marineland canisters. The one thing I like about them over a sump is noise. They're extremely quiet. On a 100 gallon I don't think a sump would be a bad choice either.

I have a fx6 on my 120 its good, high quality and maintenance is minimal, just the way I like it with my fw tanks. Also self priming. Cons is the price.

A sump is always the best way to go.

What fish are in your tank?

I like canisters, SunSun 304b I think would be fine filtration for your tank.
Good luck with choosing a filter for your tank.

I would go for any hI spec sun sun canister personally good luck!

Though go for a pump if you get regular power cuts as the canisters produce harmful bacteria when it is not filtering
