I've run my 100 gallon for many years with really little problems, and test also well 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and below 5ppm nitrates.
Reading through the forums for some time now, I'm quite sure I'm not that diligent with filtration maybe going even below 100g/h flow rate. It runs with UGF and a small canister (DIY) powered with a 300L/h pump pipelined with 9W UV sterilizer.
Lately I moved to fresh/frozen DIY food instead of flakes/pellets, and I'm doing fertilization and excel which has improved my plants … a lot.
Thinking to upgrade the conditions I would like to explore what's the recommended options for proper filtration volumes …
a- canister (Sunsun 304B or similar)
b- sump (30g or larger), my tank is not drilled
c- other options? Contigency plan (I use to stay away from home more than a week at a time)?
Pros/Cons ?
