Filter stops working

Hello. I have an Aquaclear 110 running on my 29 Gallon. The filter just sometimes stops working. I have had to take out the motor and put it back, then it works. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

 

Do you have a prefilter sponge on the end of the intake? If not, your filter might just be clogged up and you can try cleaning out the impeller.

If after you have cleaned it, check to make sure the water level is up. Does it just stop siphoning and drain the water at random?

When you say it "Stops working" can you feel the motor ( or hear it ) to verify that it is indeed running?

If you have checked all of these things and is still happening, I would consider returning it.
How old is the filter ( depending on the store policy, you may be able to return it. )

 

There's a magnet in these filters for the impeller. It could be cracked. There could also be something wrapped around the impeller shaft.

I had this problem once before. I had a sponge on the intake. Took the sponge off, cleaned it well, and it worked. The sponge was just clogged

 

I think it gets clogged. I will get a pre filter sponge. Thanks!

 

Junne where can I get a pre filter sponge for an Aquaclear 110? I can't find one

 

If your local petstore/fish store doesn't have them ( you can also just buy a filter/sponge and cut an X at the bottom of it and slip it over the intake )
or look on Amazon ( type in prefilter sponge ) and you should get a list of them. MOST will fit the intake - but if its a bit snug, you can cut it bigger. It's better to be a bit snug than too loose.

 

This is what I use for my aquaclear 30 and 70. It should fit the 110 just fine.



it works great and does not clog up fast like the other ones I tried.
