65 Gallon Tank Filter Size/type For "tall" Aquariums

I acquired a beautiful 24g tank a month ago, (along with a less than beautiful 33 long for growing my own plants) and had everything planned out, and designed, many of the needed supplies gathered, and ready for building... But I have a severe case of MTS, and when I saw the 65g "show" tank, I had to have it.... along with a 55, for ... who knows. I'll think of something later.

Now, I'm really not sure what to do about filtering the 65. It's several inches taller than my 24g, and I'm not sure I can use the same set-up I had planned, which is a diy mini-sump system that keeps everything out of site.

The traditional HOB filters don't look like they could possibly go deep enough to get anything at all, off the floor of the aquarium.

Does anyone have a diy filter in a tall aquarium? Do you have pictures of your set up?

Thank you

The only thing I can think of is that some filters have extensions to the filter on the part that goes down into the water, I think that could work fine?

Thank you. I will look into that immediately.

I would think too, part of the solution is the current from the filter(s), which would serve to "stir" everything up that's on the bottom and lower part of the aquarium.

A canister would work, since the intakes are usually low and piping can be added on for longer tanks.

Another good idea is using some powerheads positioned low to help stir up matter.

(I've seen over the years people with 65g 'tall' tanks on here and the internet, so they also may be able to shed some light on their setups with a quick google or two? )

canister or AC110 with an extra extension tube or 2.

The intake from my Fluval 406 canister goes about 2/3 of the way down in my 65. You can't hardly see it in the photos.

Pretty sure aquaclear sells extension tubes if you need extra.

You really don't want your intake tubes to go to the bottom. Want them around 3 inches or more from the bottom. Your substrate can get kicked up with your fish and now it sucks that into the filter right into the impeller. Especially if you have sand as your substrate as that will do the most harm for an impeller.
