Filter Setup

what would you suggest as a filter setup for a blackwater planted tank? I currently have sponge/carbon/an bio media in the filter, someone at local shop had said I could get away without the carbon an switch up what I’m using to help benefit the tank more. Was curious on thoughts to that, I was thinking of cutting sponge in half to allow little more bio media but what else would be good or is carbon necessary for tank health?

From my understanding carbon is used to remove medicines and possible odors other than that not really beneficial I don't run carbon in none of mine.
A sponge filter is great for biological the more the better to an extent
I didnt look in your profile to see your tank setup,But I would assume as long as there is enough turnover rate in the tank with little disturbance to the inhabitants way of life, I tend to over filter my 3 setups

I run 2 LBS of carbon in my canisters (Magnaflow 360"s) but I would think it would remove the black from your black water.

Carbon and purige will both remove the tannis from your water so your stuck with only mechinical and bio media.
