HI all! My filter for my 30G went out today. I need good filter suggestions for a 30G fish tank with two goldfish( fancies). I'm not doing canister so it'd have to be HOB. Also not looking to spend hundreds of dollars seeing as I just don't have that kind of money lol.

I'd get an AquaClear 70. Plenty of room for extra media which you'll need to handle 2 messy goldfish.

I suggest an AquaClear 70

aquaclears are great filters but if self priming is an issue (as it seems a good number of aqua clears do not self prime) aqueon quietflow 55/75 would be an option for you. It's a little bit extra filtration but should be fine.

To be honest I don't even know what self priming is lol

If the power goes out and a filter doesn't self prime then it could fail to start filtering again until someone pours water in the back

I never had any issues with my AquaClear 70's re-priming after a power outage/being unplugged. As long as the water in the tank doesn't drain it won't pull water out of the HOB.

That is what I have. Fot both my AC 110 and AC 70 I neve have self priming issues. Just 2 weeks ago I had a power outage for 10 minutes. When electricity came back on my filters started working. As long as the water didn't go below the intake which seems to never happen unless you lift the filter out of the water it will self prime!
