Filter not working suddenly

I unplugged my filter while doing a water change, once I plugged it back in it started making a grinding and popping noise. The filter is a tetra whisper EX70 and it is a self priming filter.

 

Pull it out and pull it apart around where the intake meets the canister there should be an impeller make sure there's nothing blocking/jamming it up. It sounds like something may have settled during your WC and jammed it.

 

Thats typical of a filter that needs priming, I know you say its self priming but try pouring water in the top when you switch it on, the noise sounds like the impeller spinning with no water around it

 

I pulled it apart and rinsed everything off put it back together and it started working
