Filter Impeller Modification Question

So i just recently got a betta for my 10 gallon tank. I have a quietflow 10 HOB filter for it, with a pre-filter sponge. In the cavity in the back, I have more sponge, and Fluval Biomax rings.

I want to reduce the flow of my filter, but all the "fixes" I dont really care for. The pantyhose fix, the cut bottle fix, they all seem.... hack. Not saying they wouldn't work, I just dont like those methods.

One idea I had was to modify the impeller. If I drill a hole in each of the 3 blades, the impeller would not pump as much water, and everything would still function / look as it does now. Of that doesnt slow it down enough, I use a slightly bigger drill bit and open the holes up more.

Has anybody tried this before?

Thanks

Don't think that will work as it will put the impeller out of balance causing it to be noisy and wear out. Suggest maybe something better here. Marina S20 with full flow control.
