Filter change

I read somewhere on this board that you do not/should not change filter monthly. Any comments? Tank has been up on running for 30 days and used Seachem Stability to assist cycle, along with some fish after two weeks. The manufacturer says to change monthly. Are they just trying to make money?

Don't change it until it's falling apart. There's no reason to and it will actually mess up your cycling. If it looks cluttered with debris rinse it gently in tank water and replace. If you have one that has active carbon in it like I do, you can cut open the cartridge and take out the carbon after a few weeks because it doesn't work forever.

My filter has two slots, one supposedly for other media, and I actually just slid another cartridge in there for a backup when I do finally have to change one--or possibly to seed a new tank in the future, but not if you ask my husband!

I would say wait a long time. The pad just hold bacteria.

I have a whisper 30-60 and if I will probally change the pads after about 8 months.

If you have filter pads with carbon I would reccomend buying carbon pads. There separate pads and they are just carbon I use them and my water is clear.
