1EF4E6F0-D253-4379-A83F-98664126CFA8.jpeg hello I am newly starting to have fiddler crabs and crawfish. I have 4 fiddler crabs and 3 crawfish. I put a bottle with sand in it to give them air. I feed them shrimp pellets, algae discs and fluval bug bites. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thank you for all your help!

Give them some blanched spinach, which from that he will ingest calcium for shell conditioning, you can feed almost any cooked veg it's all good stuff for them

No doubt PTVinnyMac will be round for a chat hes got the cray bug hard and some nice ones, do your regular water changes as they like good water and they are great escape artists plenty of places to hide

Thanks again what size tank do you have? I have a fully enclosed top so hopefully they won’t get out although my fiddler crabs have been trying hard. They settled down since I put an air bottle in the tank.

Hi! Welcome to aquaria. Did you know that while crawfish are freshwater, fiddler crabs require low end brackish water to survive?

Yes I do but I tried to talk to some members on here about it and all I got was back lash. Lol

I do have salt in my aquarium for my fiddler crabs and for my angel fish.

I thought this was supposed to be a friendly community?

Lol. They still have to have access to moisture to wet their gills so they can breathe, but my fiddlers spend about ½ their time out of water.

Sheldon....hes on my floor (potentially) somewhere.....
How longs he got...the boys seemed scared of the 2nd one so I removed him but the thought of him, say, running across me while I sit on the couch terrifys me lol

Well I can’t believe that happened! Terrible! I was just asking because so many pet stores sell them deceivingly as freshwater and fully aquatic. I purchased mine on a whI'm but then went home to do research and found out they need low brackish and access to land. I had to get a whole separate setup for them! lol worth it to see them happy and healthy. One of the most entertains pets, especially when the boy is trying to get the girl’s attention.

I guess that depends on the humidity in the room. If I had to guess I’d say he has maybe a day. I don’t really know though. Was he supposed to be puffer food?

Hey I had a thought on your air bottle. Cool idea, but did you run an airline to run fresh air in?

Alot of people add salt to their aquariums for a lot of different reasons
I had only pointed out differences between aquarium salt in a fresh tank vesa true brackish tank (which is what my puffers are in)

Oh I agree. It’s just how I’ve seen it done a few times so I was wondering.

On the salt, I think the only consideration I would give is to what kind of salt you are using. I think it’s better to use reef or marine salt rather than aquarium salt because it has a lot of needed minerals.

I keep my salinity for my fiddlers at 1.004, what do you keep yours at?

The air line to the right goes to my bottle.

No I have sand in my aquarium so I filled full of sand put my hand over the open end and submerged it and pointed the open end down.

Yea

Cool! Me too! Though I’m a few years younger at 33.

I think it would be good to consider switching your salt going forward to the marine salt or reef salt so you get the added minerals. The cost is about the same.

I wish you would talk to some other members on here all I have gotten is nothing but negativity because I add salt to my fresh water tank it’s nice to talk to someone that knows what they are talking about!

Is marine salt ok for fresh water?
