Fertilizer And Shrimp/snails

HI all,

I just got my tank planted and it is cycling. I plan to eventually house shrimp and snails along with my fish. I have been advised to wait for the tank to settle for awhile after adding fish so the shrimp aren't affected by the water fluctuations that will happen and to wait for the tank to mature for the snails.

My question is: I purchased this fertilizer.

I have only dosed once but then noticed it contains copper!

Have I ruined my tank for shrimp and snails? I would be very heartbroken, especially about the shrimp!

I read that copper can linger for a long time. I do have a copper testing kit but I read that plants will absorb and secrete copper.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Treat your tank with seachem cuprisorb to remove copper, I only know this as I breed a lot of shrimp and it came up in a forum I belong to and that done the trick

HI hawklady if you take a look at one of my shrimp tanks zoom in and the fine layer of substrate is called Flora base pro, not only is it good for plants it also lowers the ph to 6 to 6.5 so you don't need any fertiliser,it cost £8 a small bag but there are other makes out there that do the same. I have never fed any of my plants liquid food and the results speak for themselves

Believe it or not this tank was only setup in February 2018 and I cut the plants back almost once a month so by Xmas you should be well on your way.

If it contains less than 0.003% copper it's fine.
I dose flourish, which has 0.001% copper several times a week (little bit overdose) in a tank with snails and shrimp, and I haven't noticed any ill effects

WTFish?

I don’t know the particular fert you have but I use flourish and it also has TRACE AMOUNTS of copper. I’ve been dosing both my tanks that contain shrimp and snails weekly for over a year, many people use it and it’s fine.

since coming to this forum I looked into copper and shrimp and read that shrimp do have a trace line of copper in them, saying that to much will kill them anyway
