Hello! So I adopted a Betta from petco a month ago. He had a VERY severe swim bladder problem. I initially thought it was bacterial as the water he was in was atrocious and it wasn’t constipation so I just assumed he ate some dodgy food and messed up his insides. A round of kanaplex in water then another one in food showed a small amount of improvement but not a lot. So the next assumption was parasites. I whipped out my microscope and took a fecal. Low and behold I found parasites. Still trying to figure out **** they specifically are. Ovals zooming around everywhere. Ordered metroplex and focus. (Also got prazi pro on the way and fenbendazole just arrived today). 4 days into the metroplex food treatment I’ve noticed a huge improvement! He’s still got a bit of positive buoyancy but he swims around and will pick food off the bottom of the tank for several seconds. Before he wasn’t even able to reach the bottom. I’ll be doing the metroplex for 2 weeks as recommended by the seachem lady tech I spoke to. But I was also wondering can I mix in fenbendazole as well? Just for extra measure. I also have some wild guppies with camallanus so I need to make a food mix anyway. I want to make a flake mix as the guppies and Betta have trouble with pelletes. I have the safe guard 1g packets of canine fenbendazole dewormer. Also can I use the prazi pro in the water with the medicated food or is that just too much for the Betta to Handel at on
I’ve noticed his stomach has gotten a bit bloated and white since the metro treatment despite his swimming improvement. Been doing Epsom salt dips to help him pass the parasites and that’s helped a bit.
advice on the fenben food is appreciated
PS Betta is in a 2gal bowel temporarily till he can swim better. doing water changes every 2 days. Live in Hawaii so temp is permanently 80F hence why no heater. No filter either though because I need to get an extra one that won’t cause too much water movement. Don’t wanna stress him since he can’t swim well. He’s got a proper planted tank ready for when he’s better.
