Female red swordtail fish wounded or sick??

Hi,
I recently bought a pair of red swordtail fish (male and female), they both look fine yesterday, but today I woke up to find the female with a white looking injury/wound on the top of her back and on one side. I have looked for possible diseases online, but have not find anything that looks like it. I saw pictures of ich and it is not what she has. I was wondering if anybody might know what is wrong with her or just has any suggestions.

Photo on 2012-05-28 at 10.45 #2.jpg sorry for the bad quality of the pic, but my good camera is not currently working.

she is currently separated from the rest of the fish.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like wounds to me. What other fish/animals were in the tank she was in?

I think I agree with Dino. It sounds like a wound. It could have been from the male, other fish, or something in the tank she ran into. Can you tell if scales are missing, its indented at all, or does it look like its been scraped off?

Other than a wound, it could be colour loss from stress, but it seems too patchy. If she loses colour through out the rest of her body, or if it dissapears on its own, this is what it could be.

Either way, keep her in very clean water and under as little stress as possible. I would put her backin the tank if you have in a bowl. Heated, filtered water will be better.

I took her back to the fish store where I bought her this morning and they told me it was a fungus, so I bought some medication for her and the tank. I brought her back home and medicated her, but unfortunately she passed away a few hours ago. I don't know if a fungus can kill a fish that fast or if she had something completely different, maybe a wound like you guys suggested. None of my fish are aggressive, she was in the tank with the male red swordtail, and 5 neon tetras, and a male dalmatian molly. I am going to keep treating the tank with the medication I bought just to be safe.

Thanks for the help.

Swordtails do best in groups of one male to multiple females. I personally try to stock at least 3 females per male.
A fish may not have caused the wound. It may have been caused by her being chased and bumping into decor.
