Female Bettas laying eggs

I found this video of a female Betta laying eggs. No male in tank, she was just spraying eggs out all over and eating them.

I have often wondered what happens when females get eggs and are not bred. Several of my females are showing vertical stripes and starting to look chubby. If they eat all the eggs they release won't they get severely constipated and die?

Also seems that this person managed to get two females to live together peacefully. Wonder how many they started with who had to die first though?

Here is one that I find totally disgusting...I wish the camera owner had a few minutes in there with them. It is the most terrible thing I have seen in a long time.

First vid was pretty interesting. I've never caught my danios dropping eggs before so it's very fascinating watching it happen.
I dunno if females would get constipated from eating the eggs though *shrugs* I guess if you're worried about it you could just skip a day feeding them.. or give them a pea.

As for that 2nd vid... I couldn't even watch it. As soon as I saw 3 bettas in the bowl I closed the window.
I swear.... I dunno what the heck is wrong with people to do things like that.

Rose, that video you showed was awful. Maybe those guy's should be locked up somewhere and get beat up for a little while. It would be well deserved. > Natalie

:'(  That fight vid sickened me! I couldn't watch more than a few seconds!  I added my comment above yours. There are really no words strong enough to describe how I feel about people who fight fish, dogs, roosters etc.  If these guys were here in front of me I'd beat them to death myself! They are NOT human and have absolutely NO value!  If one of these were my son, I'd disown him in a heartbeat and probably take him out of the world myself!
The worst thing is, these guys are probably laughing at all the comments. I know guys like this. I work with a couple who brag every lunchtime about killing/torturing animals on the weekend for fun! I've reported them and NOTHING gets done. They don't even get fired!  : >

I couldn't watch much of the 2nd vid, either.  What you all saw was the beginnings of sociopathy.  I can't tell you what I'd do with them.

I had nightmares after watching a video where they used convict cichlids for feeders! I have 2 and know what great fish they are, mean and loveable! To me there should be the same rules applied to fish owners as there are other animals. Animal cruelty is animal cruelty, no matter what species.

I feel numb.  I watched too much of it.  My God.  I agree, that's the beginning of sociopathy.  When boys are young...my brother hurt a bird.  He was 5?  The age of those guys in the video though...very troubling.

I wonder about the children they'll have and what they'll role model...and the kind of women that could be with men like that.

Unbelieveable.

I'm glad someone got PETA involved.  If something can be done, they'll get it done.  They helped me with a puppy here in Tampa that was being left outside with no shelter on a chain when everyone was being told to bring in their plants because it was so cold!  PETA helped all the way from Virginia and mobilized people they knew here and they don't have that dog anymore.  I don't agree with everything I've heard from PETA but most of it I do.

While commenting on the 2nd video, I failed to say anything about Phloxface's video.  I don't know that I'll ever breed Bettas, so seeing a female Betta lay eggs in person is not something I'd probably ever see, either.  Thanks for the video, Phloxface.

Cool video, Phloxface. Thanks for sharing it. 8)

I didn't even go to your video, Rose. After reading other peoples comments, I knew I wouldn't be able to handle seeing it. There's a law against fighting animals like that. Why isn't there a law against fighting fish? :'(

Smart cherryrose. That vid definitely has staying power. Ugh. Very hard to get it out of my mind.

There was another on there about a fish fighting club that honestly has groups all over the world and it has been removed from the site. I wish they would remove the one with the college students as I think it is a terrible example to younger people let alone a horrible thing to do.
