I was thinking of getting a female betta for my 20 gallon community. This would not be the first time I have had a female in a community, but I was just wondering what everyone thinks.

Walstad tank,

Lots of plants

fish:

Three platies, two guppies, 5 neons, some snails, a few shrimp and one oto

I had a female betta that didn't do well in a community tank. The problem was feeding it b/c it started eating the other fish food flakes, and there was no way for me to feed betta pellets to it b/c the other fish would gobble it up. It got bloated and perished unfortunately.

Should be ok but keep an eye on her, she may not play nice with others. Plus any betta will be a glutton given the chance, so watch for that too.

Yeah....I have a plan for keeping her from over eating. My last female community betta over ate and died. NOT letting that happen again
