I have a crown tail female beta who was suffering from fin rot do to stress from the filter being too strong and I medicated her for like 2 weeks using maracyn 2 however she’s gotten better she’s always had her appetite I feed her high quality food however I see no growth or her fins. They don’t look worst but I haven’t seen improvement. Also I see that if I’m not present she just lays there when I approach is when she gets active and starts swimming. Any ideas how I can help her

I do need to do more frequent water changes I’ll be honest I just am not sure how much. And I feed her once a day pellets or frozen food with vitachem or garlic extract. I’m also not sure if the red by her gills is normal

What size tank do you have? That will determine how much and how often to change your water.

I have her in a 5 gallon tank.

I have her in a 5 gallon tank.
Should I continue to use medication and if so which do you recommend

I would stop the medication and put some carbon in your filter to remove the meds. Start changing 50% water every few days and keep the water fresh. This will help her fins more than anything.

Do you have a water test kit?

Ok so is every 3 days good and yes I have a master test kit everything is good water wise I just guess need to do more extensive water changes because I’ve been doing like 25% once a week

Yes I would change it every few days for a few weeks or until you start to see regrowth. I do 50% minimum every week in my tanks.

For fin rot, for me the best thing is water change, I would even go to 25% every two days. Good luck

It's imperative that you start to change more water more frequently, and it's probably one of the reasons she's not healing. Her curled/crooked spine and body condition is also concerning. She could be suffering from nitrate poisoning which can be helped by improving your water quality. See where I'm going with this? Clean water is the best preventative medicine and can help with a lot of ailments. Test your water to see how bad it is and do WCs accordingly to stabilize parameters. Best of luck.
