Female Betta Fit Rot + Eye Problem

So over the past few days my female has decided it would be fun to get past the divider and get eaten by my male... you can read the whole story in this thread
Help - Betta Emergency?!

So TL;DR she has gotten beat up pretty badly and is now in her own 2.5 gallon tank

I have created this thread to show her progress and ask for advice on healing her. She has almost no tail left and her other fins are beat up pretty badly. She also has what looks like a blue film on her eye... idrk I will try to get a photo but she moves around a lot so it is quite hard.

For reference this is her before the incident

I am wondering if anyone else thinks her eye looks wierd, and for advice on healing up her fins.

just a note: I will be leaving my house tomorrow around noon and won't be back until Friday. I may be able to get my mom to do something small for me but no WCs or anything (which stinks because I know she needs pristine water)

TIA

What about a salt bath? It's 5-15 minutes in a container with heavily salted, conditioned water. It might help. I'm trying to think of small things.

How much salt should I put in how much water?(yes, I have aquarium salt) If I can pre-mix the water she might do it for me.

I typically put enough to put a slight look of salt floating (large pinch for a regular cup) or enough to get a slight salt smell. I really don't know how to describe it.

Ouch, that looks rough. Aquarium salt and jungle fungus clear tabs were recommended to me for fin rot, and they worked very well. As bad as her fins are, fin rot could definitely become a problem, especially if your mom won't do WCs. If you can't change the water, you'll want to safeguard against infection.

Is there by any chance somewhere else she could stay? A friend or someone willing to do water changes? It's not like they're difficult to do. Takes me like 7 minutes to do a 50% change in my 2.5 gallon, from start to finish. If that's not something your mom is willing to do, maybe her being responsible for the lives of animals is not the best idea.

I mean, it definitely sounds like you're stuck, here, and I imagine you've got to be so frustrated. If you can't do anything else, salt and something to prevent infections would at least be something. Better than nothing, anyway.

But just my two cents, you should absolutely not attempt a sorority when your mom is going to be the primary caretaker. It's just way more work than she's going to be willing to do. If she can't handle a 10-minute water change, there's no way she's going to be able to keep your sorority going while you're away.

Yes, this has been my problem ever since I stared keeping fish. My mom dosen't believe in water changes or the nitrogen cycle. She is one of those "well it isn't dead...yet" people. It definitely is frustrating for me to have to handle my tanks for a week and then have to leave them in her care for a whole week. She is always telling me that she is to busy with work and is tired when she gets home (ironically she works as a vet)

I think I will end up dividing the 20 gallon again (with a better divider obviously) and putting 2 females (one of which would be this one - the male would be put in her current tank) in there (because of advice from the other thread I will not be doing a male/female combo or 2 males).

Also she seems to be missing some scales and have a little bumb on her side. I will get some pictures tomorrow (I have already turned off the lights for the night as it is almost midnight where I live).

her eye might be just injured, or it couldve caught an infection. if you can get your mom to add methylene blue to the salt bath, that would take care of a possible infection. the bump could also indicate an infection, but its hard to guess without seeing

I actually knew a vet with that kind of mindset. She was an exotic animal vet, and had no apparent regard for the unique needs of exotic pets (and even encouraged pets like monkeys or lemurs... Which do not make good pets, that's something I'm unfortunate enough to know from experience).

Some people just aren't fans of facts.

As far as separating the tank, it's honestly whatever you prefer. Some people suggest only two females, for valid reasons, but the vast, vast majority of my bettas have been male/female pairs in divided 10 gallon or 20 gallon tanks, and I've never had an issue.

I personally don't like the idea of two males together because I feel like they would be stressed and flare at each other constantly, but I know fellow betta enthusiasts who always put two males together, and never have any issues. So it's really whatever you want, as long as the fish are healthy and not showing any signs of stress.

Obviously the fish's needs and health come first, but as long as the fish are content and healthy, the rest is just personal preference.

I wouldn't put the same two together again, though. Now that they've already had issues, that could really stress them out. And unfortunately with you being gone every other week, you can't monitor them to make sure they're not stressed out. Again, that's a preference thing, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

And now that I think about it, since you can't monitor them as closely as you'd like, maybe two females would be the better route.

My mom is thankfully just a small animal vet(so mainly cats and dogs)... I am not sure what she would be like if she did exotics. This is one of the reasons I had so much trouble with MY first tank(I have like 2 threads on it from when I first joined Fishlore), she was not very supportive of me getting a test kit and being so dedicated to the tank. My dad is at least a little better about it. He understands fish tanks slightly better but he always had saltwater tanks (when I got my betta at his house, that is in a 10g, he said it didn't need that much room he also was against me fishless cycling it). I have recently been taking care of our saltwater tank at his house and I have been doing tons of research. He dosent support me in buying RO water(and salt mix) or pre-mixed saltwater to do water changes with. He hadn't been in the hobby for awhile and has that "the water quality will take care of itself you mess it up with water changes" mindset.

Anyway this thread isn't supposed to be about me ranting about my parents...

I am going to go feed all the fish right now do I will update and try to take pictures then

I am thinking to just divide the tank with two females. I am thinking that a sorority may not be for me until I move out and can be with the tank full time.

Please tell me if you also see that spot on her side. Poor girl I wish I could stay with her. I would have to order methylene blue since me petco dosent have it (they don't have betta revive either) I could check petsupermarket as there is no petsmart around me but I doubt they would have it and it is quite the drive from my house to the petsupermarket.

I will try to take better pics but she is my most active betta and my phone's camera can't catch a not blurry picture while she moves around so much

Also, should I do a PWC before I leave. The tank was only set up last night

I think this is just injury, and she should be ok. Is the tank cycled? Salt is a good idea, as it wouldn't require residing or anything while you are gone. Get some betta revive coming and be ready to give her baths when you get back.
If you prepare water jugs ahead of time would your mom be willing to change water? Just scoop half out and pour in a jug, no conditioner or anything needed? She may not believe in how you do your fish tanks, but if nothing else she should be willing to do it for YOU, not necessarily for the fish. And I'm saying that as a mom. She may not care if the fish dies, but she should care about how you would feel if she (fish) died while you were gone.
If the fish was healthy, it wouldn't be so important to keep the water clean.

Would it be better to put her in 20 gallon (I am just now thinking this). Since in theory the water would stay cleaner longer. I could switch the male + female right now as I am currently doing a water change on my turtle tank and it wouldn't be too out of my way right now. The 20 gallon has more filtration and is bigger (obviously). Would she be better off there since I am not medicating the tank

That is what I was thinking and since I can't get my mom to do water changes for me it may be better that she stay in there
