Feeding Peppered Corys.

I brought a small school of peppered corys today it's my first time keeping corys. When it came to feeding I fed my fish as normal and dropped in some of the catfish pellets for them. The corys didn't really notice at first when they did notice the fish had already eaten there food and we're over picking at the corys pellets. When the corys did come across the pellets they chompped at them but didn't seem to get anything from them as the pellets are bigger then the mouths. The fish were picking and picking at them and moving them around. After a while the corys gave up.

I'm worried the corys won't get enough food. Can I have some pointers or tips for feeding them. The fish are picking the small pellets up and dropping them every were and I'm worried over time it coukd affect wamter quality. I don't want to be dumping loads of food in the tank in the hope that the corys will come across itm

I have included a pick of the pellets.

My Cory cats enjoy eating peas, and to avoid other fish eating their food, I use larger wafers that other fish can't immediately gulp up

You could try crushing them smaller, corys will find it ok less you have big gravel that it disappears into.
You could also try, though I've never done it for mine, soaking them for a little while before feeding so they soften quicker.
Btw corys will get little to no nutrition from peas even if they'll eat them, their digestive system isn't set up to digest them properly.

I use HikarI sinking wafers and shrimp pellets (can't remember the brand, sorry). They seem to love both, but I do crush up the shrimp pellets a bit for them. The wafers seem to break down easier so I just put them in whole. Hope that helps!

Also check the catfish-pellets.
There are all kinds of catfish with several kinds of needs / diets.
Be sure the used pellets are carnivorious pellets (if possibl especially for Corys).

Corys are like sharks and smelling the tiniest foodpart (if they are the right ones) and eat the smallest too.

Your Cory's will always find something to eat their constantly roaming the bottom of the tank any leftover crumbs of pellets or flakes they will surly find...they have the nose for it....sand is great for them too much easier on their cute faces over gravel ...I love watchin my peppers burrow their noses in the sand

To be fair I got the cheapest ones. I have some larger size algae wafers. I'll snap one in half and put both parts in tonight over night. I'll have a go at crushing the smaller pellets abit tomorrow. They sift the sand so should get to it sooner or later. Ill have yo get use yo it I'm use to seeing all the food be eaten as it's put in so feel abit cautious about leaving it laying around in tank.

Can't upload the video so took a screen shot of it you can see him/her trying yo eat it but can't get it in its mouth. I'll get use to it. They are slightly different to your usual swimming fish

What I try to do is distract my other fish with their food, and while they are busy munching on what I feed them, I drop the HikarI sinking wafers for my peppered corys on the opposite end of the tank.
Usually they find the wafers and are able to get some food off them by the time the other fish find the wafers. And some of my fish most times will miss some of the pieces of food I drop in so the corys will also find those specs of food that drop to the substrate.

Cories are mostly carnivores so algae wafers aren't a good food for them

My corys(I keep many different kinds in different tanks) will basically eat anything , I feed them Omega one shrimp pellets , hikarI sinking wafers , Omega one Cichlid pellets and frozen Bloodworms that I soak in cup with aquarium water for a few mins to soften up , they also eat whatever left over flakes my other fish let drop to the bottom.

I also try distracting my fish , I'll feed the top/middle dwelling fish on one side of the tank while I drop food for the corys on the opposite of the tank.

When I had cories I actually put sinking pellets when the lights were off and the fish were "sleeping". Drop a few in there during lights out.

I just crushed up the small catfish pellets and as soon as they hit the water the fish are straight onto it.

Unless they were fed at the shop today this morning they haven't eaten today. I'm going to have to get some larger cory pellets and hopefully they will nibble on them.
