feeding my ghost knifefish? I don't see him eating

I've had him 2-3 weeks, he seems active but I never see him eating. All the other fish tear into the food so I just want to make sure he's getting enough. Currently I keep a mix of frozen bloodworms, flakes, algae wafers, and brine shrimp. At night before I turn off the lights, I make sure to drop in the bloodworms and some brine shrimp.

Hes only about 3 inches or so right now, but should I start trying to hand feed him? I heard you can buy chunks of tubifex worms and hold it out to them. I'm afraid he'd just run away. Thanks

My BGK is now around a year old, and maybe around 8-10" (I actually rarely see him swim around during the day). I got him when he was also around 3".
He is in my 72G African Cichlid tank, and he has his corner and tunnels mapped out. In order to feed him, I had to create a plant wall, sort of a column from his tunnel to the corner of the tank where he knows will be the food. I feed him mainly fz bloodworms and fz brine shrimp. Spits out everything else I've tried.
The daily ritual is I will toss flakes or pellets or other food of the day for the cichlids to the main part of the tank, and when he senses the feeding frenzy he starts to move on up. I have a floating feed ring that I place his food in since he will bob and drop after each mouthful. That is the only way to keep the food stable for him.
I have tried holding some pieces of bloodworm for him, but he senses my fingers (they are blind) and often will just stay about an inch away, and sort of waits me out to just leave the food.
Beautiful fish, an absolute dancer!
You'll have lots of fun with your BGK.

Thanks badrad! He's my favorite so far, I guess it really just depends on his own personality. I'll just keep doing what I have been, I'm sure he will come around

Here's quick pic of "Shadow". My wife names most of my fish.
It did take some time before I established a routine for feeding that he seems to enjoy.

Thanks again! That's a cool ring, is there a net in top or something that keeps the food there? I would think the other fish would eat it. I'm hoping that he eats the neon tetras, but no luck so far. He's a pure black color right now though. I hear they change colors when they are starving.

That's a feeding ring, around 2 or 3 dollars at your lfs. It floats and basically just keeps water movement from dispersing the foodto quickly.

The plants you see there is a column, and is sort of a fence that keeps most of the cichlids away so it's a quiet corner just for Shadow.

I've never seen him lose his dark black colour, but I have seen that color loss in my rainbow sharks, the one that is subservient is grey and paler.

Well I saw him sneak up and swallow a krill whole the other day. Also one of my 2 guppies went missing and I have cleaned the tank twice and can't find him. He might have been food too lol. So far hes still doing really well.

Well It's almost december and he is still doing great. Today the 2nd guppy died, and it's the only fish I lost since my last post. Its funny though because his corpse was right next to the entrance where my GKF hides and looks a bit nipped up. So far he keeps hidden away. I NEVER see him swimming around outside of his hiding spots, but I have about 20 other fish roaming around so that may be why. I drop shrimp pellets near the entrance of his spot though and he comes out and grabs a bit. I'm hoping he grabs a krill or two when the lights are turned off (I watched late at night and saw him swim up and grab one).

I'm really going to need to upgrade the tank in two or three months. Hes only about 4-5" length, but I think more space the better so he doesn't feel the need to hide from the other community fish in the tank.

Also, my water parameters have been great but the nitrates on my last test seem high, nothing a couple of water changes won't fix. How supseptable are they to water conditions?
