I feed earth worms. My Cichlids LOVE them! I cut them up in smaller pieces for the fish that aren't big enough to eat them whole.

Do you buy them or dig them up?

I bought mine at the LFS. My Blood Parrots actually jump out of the water to get at the earth worms. My Jack Dempsey mauls them pretty good ;D

I'm pretty sure that wasn't an earthworm then, it would of died within an hour or two.

Ew, Ew, Ew! Maybe if I'm this squeamish I shouldn't feed my fish worms. I would hate to cut them up.

I have a pair of scissors dedicated to fish food. I'll cut the big nightcrawlers up and feed my tanks. Anybody that can fit it in their mouth loves the stuff. I my BP's seriously try and hog all of it. I have to drop some in on one side then really quck put more in on the other side. Otherwise they would be the only ones getting yummy worms.

Blood worms, available live, frozen, or freeze-dried, seem to be a nutritious favorite if you don't want to deal with earthworms. Just be aware that if you get them freeze-dried you need to soak them for a little while (I think it's an hour?) so they don't expand inside the fish.

It's a MIRACLE!!!

I think predatory fish get enjoyment out of consuming live prey.

Sometimes Tubifex worms are also fed, but those worms live in sewage (YUCK!) and are not recommended for certain fish.

Gross! Why would anyone feed their fish that junk?

well I know about bloodworms but has any one ever tryed black worms. I saw on a website a guy would feed his stock of fish blackworms.

I have not, but I'm wired and unable to sleep anyway so I could do a little research for you.
EDIT: Ah, the page says they are a type of tubifex worm. Some fish shouldn't have them and again, as I mentioned, they are sewage worms, though I suppose they might be cultured in cleaner conditions.

I feed mine earthworms worms as treats. They love them. It’s only once or twice every three weeks or so. Night crawlers might be a little big though.

ok they won't eat anything at the moment so I'm trying to find new options and something live and moving might entice them to eat

Maybe try some frozen brine shrimp? What have you tried so far? Is your tank cycled? What are the current ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings. Temperature? Have you recently gotten these blood parrots?

Had them for well over a year all readings are fine they’ve not been eating since I got rid of my Oscar (he was to aggressive to them) I’ve tried feeding them everything all frozen foods you can think of all kinds of pellet brands

Did they eat any of the worms?
Can’t find anywhere to buy them at weekend I’ll probably head to a fishing store and buy the ones they sell for bait

I hope they eat! I guess I am lucky, all the little stores have the worms because people fish all the time here. Please let us know if they eat.

I remember you had a thread about them before. I am so sorry you lost them. I wish we had a better idea of what happened. IMO there is no way any of this had anything to do with the Oscar. They had to have been sick like something internal that you couldn’t see. What’s even weirder is that they both died at the same time. You could start a thread about them passing and see if anyone can help you figure it out. I know I would like to know what happened. Again I am so sorry about your loss
