Feeding fry and general feeding questions

I’m hoping my female platy is pregnant and expecting fry soon, I posted a question before about breeder nets and from responses and things I’ve heard from others I am just going to leave her be in the tank and hope that some of the fry make it!

However I am now wondering how I would feed the fry? Obviously I can’t specifically just feed the fry if they are in the tank along with all my other fish. Do they just find little bits of food themselves from what I will already be feeding the rest of the fish anyway? I will crush flakes into a very fine powder will that work?

But the other part of my question is that my fish never seem hungry. I am sure I must be over feeding for them to act this way but even if I don’t feed for a day when I do feed them they just aren’t that bothered.

I have new life spectrum 0.5mm pellets
Frozen blood worms
Frozen brine shrimp (not bbs, so I will be looking to get bbs as I think what I have is too big for some of my fish)
Hikari algae wafers
And a tropical fish flake

I’m not really sure what I am doing wrong I don’t feed a lot imo but I must be over feeding still otherwise they would be more ravenous when it comes to feeding?

I want to give my fish a good healthy variety of food so could anyone advise (very simply) how I should feed (i.e. should I do the new life spectrum pellets on a Monday, frozen blood worms on a Tuesday, starve maybe on a Wednesday, flakes on a Thursday, frozen brine shrimp on a Friday etc...)

Im sorry I know this sounds really dumb but I am struggling with what’s best when it comes to feeding!

Fish are:
Rummy nose tetra
Sterbai cory
Platy
Bamboo shrimp
Mega clown pleco
Nerite snail

I am also starting to breed guppies and the guy I purchased some from locally gave me a free culture of micro worms. Amazing food for fry and fish under a couple inches. He added right to main tank and babies gobbled up and adults ate as well.

I'm going to ad this to my varied diet but especially for fry. Before I had this I just took the micro pellets and crushed between fingers to make powder.

Also yes fry will peck at biofilm but need supplemented food to just biofilm

Sounds good but I’m not sure I’m experienced enough to start making my own cultures! hilarious

Oh sure you are. I made our new cultures with my twin 9yr olds. My first attempt I got 4 going. 3 different methods. Just incase we crash one culture we have more as we figure out our method.

White bread, milk and yeast
Oatmeal water and yeast
Instant potatoes water and yeast

I would ship you a culture for free just pay shipping of a few $ if you ever wanted if your in USA

They fascinate me

What i did when i had fry was catch them as i saw them and put them into a breeder or seperate tank. I used a turkey baster to suck them up. Also make sure u have lots of hiding places for them like moss or floating plants (real or fake) and yes powdered flakes will work

Wow really? I will have to do some Youtubing, see if I can figure it out! That’s really kind of you but I am in the UK unfortunately!

Hi! Wondered how you're faring in your dilemma. it seems I'm where you were a few months ago.

I have 4 2wo molly fry hanging in a breeder net and a very pregnant platy who I can't find atm. Maybe she's in labor in the moss.

I do have a breeder box which I'll put her in if I see her actually dropping fry. I'm REALLY tempted to just throw her in now cept I'm not positive she's on the brink and I don't want to stress her.

I feed my fish pretty much the same stuff you have. I've been alternating crushed flakes with san Francisco bay assorted freshwater frozen. I also have just succeeded in my 1st hatch off bbs.. so have been randomly treating them. With a day of fasting. I throw in a couple wafers 2x week. My pleco is the only one that truly seems to enjoy. ANd 1x week a frozen veg. again...pleco loves it.

The molly fry eat about 4x/day...alternating bbs and flake powder. and my other fish love to suck on the bottom of the net. I guess they're getting food seepage.

Really no clue what I'm doing ...lol. This week I have cut down as I was feeding flakes everyday along with something else. And there's been an INCREDIBLE amount of poop.

How about your feeding plan?

Here's Luna....my prego platy
