Feeding A Baby Betta

Hello, This is probably going to sound ridiculous but a week ago I got a baby/juvenile betta and I got her some betta pellets. Little did I know the pellets are too big for her mouth. I've being giving her brine shrimp that works perfectly but I don't want her to eat just shrimp. I read to crush the pellets but it makes it like a dust and I'm afraid she won't see it to eat it and it'll just dirty her tank. Any ideas on things to feed her?

There are lots of live foods available or frozen: brine shrimp, bloodworms, white worms... You can find them in most fish stores. Careful though, it's very easy to spoil a betta.

Betta flakes are easier to break apart enough so it can fit in their mouths.

Yes, flakes can be crushed into a powder if she's fry sized

Or you could get smaller pellets?

Yeah the pellets I got where the smallest I just didn't know she couldn't eat them at all.

I feed the brine shrimp and bloodworms (frozen) to my other fish and the bloodworms are also too long. She can't chew it apart. Thank you so much for your reply though!!!

Mine was like that when I got him, I just pre soaked his pellets for a little bit so they got softer and he could eat them.

I think sometimes bettas, especially if they're used to live food can be a little picky, with the blood worms, you could cut them up although its a messy job.

Raising her on baby brine shrimp won't be bad for her, many breeders(including myself) use it as the majority of a fry's diet. I supplement with mosquito larvae, microworms, frozen daphnia and crushed up pellets

For my baby betta I came across the same problem, so I lightly crushed a small pellet food just enough to crumble it a little, then sprinkled it in after temporarily turning off the filter so it wouldn't get pushed around too much. Between that and thawed (small) brine shrimp/blood worms the little guy has been pretty set.
