Hi all
just set my new 50g (largest tank I’ve ever owned) and I’m really excited to plan out what new plants to introduce.
currently have a mix of hornwort, hygropgilia, red crypt, moss balls, hair grass, and Anubis’s in my other tanks, but I definitely want something nice and tall that stands out. Preferably a low tech plant that requires low-med light. Thanks!

Vallisneria is an awesome background plant that'll grow pretty quickly in low tech tanks! It was my best-growing plant when I had a low tech 55g.

Aponogenton Ulvaceus? In my experience it tends to shoot off for a week to a month or so, and then stop growing for a few months and then shoot off again, but it may get to tall for a 55g.

Agreed. I added a couple jungle vals to my 29g about a month ago and I already have 2 new plants, with another two shoots about to take root. One of the new plants is probably about 15 inches tall already. Definitely recommend for low-tech tanks.

All of these tall plants I really like and will work in low tech tanks:

Crypt spiralis
Crypt balansae
Nymphoides hydrophylla 'Taiwan'
Helanthium bolivianum 'angustifolius'
Myriophyllum tuberculatum
Cabomba pulcherrima

I had some Val a while back and loved it, but it ended up just rotting from the roots up. I still have no idea what had happened, but I’m definitely gonna try again.

Water wisteria is a good one too in my (limited) experience
(and water lettuce on the top can help 'connect' the top layer with medium height plants on the bottom too--some of the roots for my water lettuce reach down almost a foot from the surface)

Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus takes a good amount of room. And I recently got some Crinum Calamistratum, which is just great looking and the leaves get long, but they kind of grow out random and not exactly up, so might not be what you are looking for.

Hi Apatheia

I like one of Chanyi choices, Nymphoides hydrophylla (aka sp. 'Taiwan'), however Limnophila sp. 'Curly' and Persicaria sp Kawagoeanum are all shown below in my 45 gallon tall (36" X 13" X24" high). I keep the Nymphoides trimmed to 14" or it would grow to the surface. -Roy
