Favorite livebearer

what is your favorite livebearer?

 

I could never choose. Anyway I have 2 kinds and I wouldn't want the Platys to get mad at me if I choose the Guppies or vice versa.

 

I would have said mollies but I recently picked up some Endler's livebearer guppies and they are just too cute.

 

I would not be able to choose between guppies and wild type swordtails.

I like my mollies better just because of there size But all Liverberors are great fish!!!

 

Mine would have to be platy, as I have had the most success. Swords seam to die on me ??.

A friend has about 30 molly fry, they are so cute how they follow your finger across the glass... Id definitely say Mollies!

PLATTY, easy to breed.

 

FAncy tail guppies, very easy to breed. stick in a male and a couple females, and you will have babies.

yeah, I like guppies too, especially the males, for their beautiful fins an tails.

 

Male fancy tails are the coolest livebearers-those colors are so cool.

 

Sounds like most of the people here like guppies.

Definitely guppies.

 

yep......guppies for me too! they are all beautiful! I guess its because they are all different and so can differentiate between them! got some more yesterday I like them that much! might get some mollies to join them though. saw some black and white ones in the lfs...they look quite cool!

Endler's livebearers are a small guppy-like fish from Venezuela. Here are a few links with more info.





The guy I bought my 75 gal tank from had a 55 gal tank with just endlers and live plants and it was amazing. I told my wife right there I wanted to get these fish.

Yeah, there are many livebearers. The Western Mosquito Fish and the Butterfly Goodeid are also livebearers.

Most lfs' don't sell them. You should get some pictures at google s.

Platys and swordtails. Don't like guppies, and have never had mollies or any fancy livebearers.

Ameca Splendens are my favorite.

 

I'd never heard of the A. splendens, Dave. Nice to learn new things. Can I be honest though? I found they looked a little like misshapen rainbow fish. But then again I've never seen them live or anything.

Anyways, my nomination is......... ( roll): molly. What a surprise, LOL. Second best for me is platy, then guppies.

I love them all, that being said tho, I find that IME my swords pregnancies run like clockwork and the fry grow more quickly than the other LBs. I also enjoy Endlers, however, if you are not careful, you can get overrun in a very short time.

really? My swords grew so slow. Mollies grow like weeds!

 

I voted for platies, but like we all find out different fish respond differently. I have 3 different color groups, and of them the Sunset fire wagtails seem to be the heartiest. Their fry grow faster, and there are more survivors. My favorite is the Rainbow platy, though because of the color, AND relative success on raising fry. They are doing well in with the other fish and tank mates they are with.
I like the blue Mickey mouse, but they just haven't been very healthy, and this may be due to where I got them, don't know. Their fry grow really slow.....

 

I hadn't heard of them either, not surprising given their status. I saw an adult female at the aquarium society and you can see 3 young ones on our tanks thread. They are beautiful in person, especially when they get more colorful and metallic looking. Dino has some too. I find them to be the smartest livebearers that we have. Did you load the wikipedia page on them?

I think I'd say X. variatus is my favorite to keep right now...they're like Platys but prettier. Endlers are close behind but I haven't actually had any yet. Edit: Oops I forgot to mention my Platys...love them too.
