Favorite/Best Food For Goldfish

Hey y’all! So some of you know me and some of you don’t. I just set up my first tank since the house fire way back in April if any of y’all remember that. Basically the fire ruined all but a handful of my tanks that happened to be in the basement for storage instead of upstairs with the rest (only 2 tanks upstairs survived). That being said, all of my equipment, testing kits/chemicals, fish food, etc also had to be trashed due to safety reasons. Fast forward to 6 months later, and I have finally got around to setting up one of the surviving tanks. It now has a single Oranda goldfish. It was the only one that they had other than some two to three times it’s size that I didn’t feel comfortable with. I’m going back later this week after they get their new shipment in. I was wondering what everyone uses and recommends for their fancy goldfish? I’m slowly building my feed selection back up to where it used to be (I had an entire drawer full of different foods). So far I have
-Omega One Sinking Goldfish Pellets
-Fluval Bug Bites Goldfish Flakes
-Tetra Freeze Dried Bloodworms (for no apparent reason, maybe a treat a couple times a month)
-Frozen Bloodworms
-Frozen Mysis Shrimp
-Live Blackworms

Other than what you have, I would just recommend some blanched/microwaved veggies cut into bite sizes, especially peas. You could buy more pellets/flakes but it's not necessary. Feed veggies more than the live/frozen foods! :)

Stick to sinking food, you want to minimize your fish coming up to the surface and sucking air while they eat. Seems to be a problem with Goldfish, happened to one of mine. Omega One is good food, I used New Life Spectrum Goldfish Food good stuff. Try feeding boiled vegetables as well, its great for them.

I’m waiting until he’s a little older to really start adding veggies. The flakes are for a bit of variety. I was trying to decide if I wanted to try NLF and/or Xtreme Goldfish Pellets. I’ll probably stick to just the one type of flakes anyway. Here’s the little guy in question. He’s in a 15g right now until he’s old enough to be moved into a larger tank (I have a 29g sitting, but he’s only 2” and I don’t want to stress him). I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a 50g for when he gets bigger. Then obviously I’d have 4-5 in a 50-55g.

about the 55g, just go with 3-4, five is a bit too many imo.

5 would be my max in a 50-55. Granted that depends on length and width.
4 would probably be what I would do. Granted, I over filter everything and do a ton of water changes, so 5 is manageable for me.

I've tried different brands of food and always go back to Omega One small sinking goldfish pellets, and Omega One small sinking Veggie Kelp pellets.

I feed mine an 'everyday" diet of Repashy Gold powdered gel food, supplemented with sinking pellets now and again, and fun treats like frozen broccoli, bloodworms, microwaved egg, and leafy veggies stuck in the tank on a clip. They've done very well with it! I get the impression young goldies (under a year) do well to have a little extra protein in their diets to help them grow. Food is a big part of a goldfish's life and activity so I like to give them food they have to work for (like, frozen broccoli... they chase it all over and have to pull the buds off, it's fun to watch and keeps them occupied)

I can’t wait until the little guy gets full size! He’s just now starting to come out of his shell. I’m going in search of another Oranda tomorrow. Might set up my other 15g as a qt/temporary growout in case I find more than one that I like (have seeded media from a few 3.5g tanks. Im really wanting to get ideas for a new 10g nano tomorrow though

Yeah I had my first two fish in a 30g for a while and then chanced into a 75g(!). After I had that nice and established I started being "open" to the idea of a 3rd fish... so I got a 10g aquarium kit when they were on sale that I could use as a quarantine/hospital tank (I figured 10g would be fine temporarily, especially if I cleaned it frequently). I would wander into pet shops waiting for a fish to stand out and then one day, bam! came home on the bus with a fish bag tucked in my coat ;)

But you know, these guys live for a long time, you don't have to be in a rush to get more fish. BUT IT'S SO HARD TO WAIT! :D
