Fat platy...

HI guys,
overnight one of my female platys died. She has a very swollen stomache but its at the front rather than at the back so she looked rather bulbous. My brother says she was flicking against plants and gravel but there is no external marks or spots...
any ideas?

Ahh yeah I didn't think of that - thanks Carol...
I have read that page and I think the cause may be a genetic weakness because it was the sister of one of the others that died of the same symptoms a while back whereas the rest of the platys are from a different store. They were both much larger than my other platys in the first place...poor things.
Thanks again

Sorry you lost your fishie :'( You say they were a good bit bigger than the others it could be old age and weakness also.

Yeah I think it was a genetic thing.. they weren't very old - only about 8 months or so. Shame but it happens and we can only learn from the experience so now I know what it looks like and how to treat it... good does come from sad things.

BOOO!! Another platy in the other tank died of the same thing yesterday!! :'( I can't remember if he was also one of the same bunch from my friend.. I'm keeping an eye on all the others now and got some parasite treatment to put in all my tanks.
