Faster Cycle?

So I have one cycled tank and one uncycled tank with fish in it. Could I add some water from the cycled tank into the uncycled one? I already put the media of the cycled tank in the uncycled one but I want to speed it up more.

There's not much beneficial bacteria in the water column of a cycled tank. It's very minimal. The majority of beneficial bacteria can be found on the bio-media in the filter.

Adding a bacteria additive will help as well, of course.

If you used cycled media from a cycled tank, it shouldn't take long to get the new one cycled. What tank did it come from?

The cycled tank is a 2.5 gallon and the uncycled is a ten gallon. The uncycled tank has 5 ppm of nitrate and and a little less than 0.25 of ammonia so I guess it isn't completely cycled but its close.

If the media came from a smaller tank with a smaller bio-load (less fish), it can take a little while to "catch up" to the larger tank with a bigger bio-load. Shouldn't take much longer.

You can add Seachem Stability as a supplement. But adding water from a cycled tank will do little to nothing.

Thank you!

I would add Tetra Safe Start to the 10 gallon

Agreed with the above, that's another good bacteria additive. Just make sure it's the "Plus" version of TSS.

Just raise the temperature above 80 degrees. This will hasten the process--- and be patient.
