Fancy Goldfish Filtration?

I am planning on purchasing two 3.5 inch ranchu goldfish and housing them in a 40 gallon breeder tank.

Would an aquaclear 70 and a large sponge filter powered by a 40 gallon air pump be a good amount of filtration to only needing to conduct one water change a week?

What filtration do you recommend for two fancies in a 40 breeder tank? I don't mind spending the money on good filtration if it means my fishes will be healthy and I won't be struggling with water changes.

That's 300gph plus the sponge filter, I think it should be ok

I have an AC70 and they are great!

When the gold fish start to grow and the bio-load increases, you can try using different types of media in that AC70, such as PolyFill or layers of filter pads cut to fit from a bulk roll.

I use sponge pre-filters on all my HOB's.

Here is are 2 pics of an ATI Filter Max III that I use on my AC110. It would work well on your AC70 also.

Should be good. I will even say you won't even need the sponge filter, although it wouldn't hurt.

Also, you can get 20% off your order, even on clearance and sale items, at Drs. Foster and Smith online.

I have used them before and just placed an order yesterday. They have great customer service. They have zero S&H on orders over $19.

Use code "4UXTRA20" for 20% off.

An AC70 would be only $40 and the larger AC110 would be only $64.

Fancy goldfish sound lovely in a large aquarium.
Will you, can you, have plants with them?
We used to have a pond and the goldfish loved the planted areas.
